I just got my first credit card about a month ago, but I was wondering if I should wait for the bill to come in the mail..or go ahead and pay it online now? On the website, there isn't even a payment due date yet..so I don't think it needs to be paid anytime too soon, but if paying it online will help my credit a little then I'll go for it. Thanks for any help

It's not going to affect your credit until you wait till its due. As long as you pay it when they send it to you, you'll be fine.

Paying early will not help your credit -- paying late will hurt your credit.

If you use a credit card you should always pay the entire amount and never never carry a balance. If you have the money, just pay it off, even if the bill is not due.

Credit card companies love what they call "sloppy payers". These are people who have the money to pay their bills but who don't have the discipline to pay on time, generating interest payments and late fees. Credit card companies want you to forget to pay your bill.

One strategy to avoid this is to put a minimum amount on monthly autopay. I'm assuming you are young and perhaps don't have that many expenses on your card -- but I put quite a lot on my card each month so I actually pay each monthly bill in two parts. I put $200 on autopay with my online bank. I don't have to think about it -- I just know each month regardless of what the balance is this $200 will go out and will ensure that my account doesn't get hit with late fees. When I pay the bill I pay $200 less. It may seem complicated but it ensures that even if I forget by a week or if a payment gets lost there is no way I'll pay a fee.

You should also know that pretty much all credit card companies will waive one late fee per year. So if you mess up and get a late fee, call and ask that it be waived. If they resist explain that you will pay your bill and immeditely cancel your account.

Good luck.

Sure you can. But ultimately you'll have to pay all your credit card bill..take that into account before paying a credit card with credit card. It only adds to the debt.

Paying on-line only provides you convenience such as not using a postage stamp, writing out a check or having your payment get lost in the mail. I would wait until you see a payment due date listed then pay. Check on it later on.

Tiffany I say this to you with all the Christian love I have. Please try to avoid any and all financial transactions on line for as long as possible. I know that one day all will have computers and it will be unavoidable, but until then pay your bills by mail. That 41cent stamp could save you a whole lot of grief.
I never do banking or pay bills on line. I have received the advise I'm giving from a very successful stock broker and a world class rocket scientist personally.

if you keep it paid in full every month, it will reflect well on your credit report and will save you a ton of interest charges as well.

Just pay it by the due date and you'll be fine.
