It could be allergies, or it could be flees. Definitely contact the vet and schedule an appointment. It is probably just some flees and you will get a prescription from the doctor.

Sorry to be skeptical but I've just met so many owners who claim their pets don't have fleas, and are astonished when I show them they have!! Usually they've been using pet store treatment, unaware that none of them work.......
Anyway, there are many different causes for excess scratching or biting. Mites could be a cause, but paying particular attention to the feet and ankles is often allergies. Allergies can develop at any time of life, so the fact that nothing's changed or that she's never shown these symptoms before doesn't really mean anything.
You need to go to a vet if you actually want to find out what's going on here, because no one on Yahoo is going to be able to answer this question! This is a place for 'what do I name my dog' or 'what kind of pet shall I buy' - not medical questions.

Food allergies can casue dogs to chew or bite or lick on their feet.
You may want to look at changing your food to something without corn, soy or wheat and maybe having lamb as the meat source.
Some breeds have more issues with food than others. Some are very sensitive and get itchy easily.
Talk to your vet about feeding something else.

She is probably allergic to her food. You may need to switch her to something different. Make sure you try something that does not have the same ingredients as her lamb and rice. Wellness makes a line of dog-food specifically for allergies. You can find a link on my page about natural pet foods:

Dogs who have food allergies often bite and chew their paws obsessively. Check with your vet about a diet change.

Allergies in dogs show up as leg/foot biting. If this were my dog I would be giving it benadryl to help make it feel better.

Alot of the time it is boredom. The animal can create wounds that will come and go, sometimes it is seasonal. There's a big long complicated name for this condition, as it is pretty common, but I can't remember it.
