I'm looking at getting a new car and don't really have any models in mind but have some features in mind that I want such as good gas mileage, good horse power, good fuel economy (around at least 28 mpg reg driving) and should have four doors. Should be around 16k-17k max and have considered the makes Volkswagon, Toyota, Nissan, Pontiac, Chevy, Dodge, Lexus, and Subaru. Have also looked at hybrids but don't really like the Prius. Would consider a hybrid though. What would be the best car to get that falls under those features?

Toyota Avalon. You get A LOT of car for your money. Has a Lexus feel but comes with a Toyota price tag (the Lexus E300 is basically the same exact car). Powerful V6 engine gets great gas mileage, very, very reliable, extremely spacious (front/back seats, huge trunk), safe, exceptionally comfortable, and it comes stock with an 8" sub. You could put one or two 10" subs in the trunk and still have a more trunk space than most other cars.

You should definitely check out this car in person before you rule it out. I drive a '98 and still consistently get compliments on it. It's as or more comfortable than most luxury vehicles sold in the 2000s. My friend just purchased the 2006 model and it is comparable to the Lexus LS430.

I think it's a good car if you couldn't already tell.

You could get a 1-year old Camry or Accord. They are very reliable and can last a long time.
