hey, so i just wanna tell you all about my little girl Alex. she's 3 years old but she's been behaving really odd lately. just hear me out, my wife sets her of in a bed and i find it odd that 30 mins later, a 3 year old finds her way to the couch or the carpet to sleep on. im really more concerned that she likes to sleep ontop of me as well as the way she sleeps. i was taught that if you sleep upright, it'll help your posture, breathing etc (wether or not thats true, its just what i think) i useually come home from work and land straigt on the couch and sleep. but ever since she started to walk, she's been climbing ontop of me and curling up into a ball to sleep on my back.

my friends told me that maybe she's learning from something by example as kids tend to do that. i know my wife doesn't curl up into a ball on me, and we dont have a cat either, is somthing wrong?

No nothing at all, she obviously just loves her daddy and finds him comfortable to sleep on! Kids will sleep anywhere when they're tired - but if you think about it, she IS copying you - it's just that there's no couch left for her to sleep on, so she lies on you!

Sounds like she finds you comforting... and as far as her curling up in a ball, most young children sleep in a fetal position. Sleeping in a little ball is just what she did for the first 9 months of her unborn life... it's comforting. I think your kid is just fine. Do agree with maybe you should sleep in your own bed. And maybe you should spend a little time with her before you sleep? Maybe she's looking for that comfort from you, because from the way it sounds you walk in the door and jump on the couch. I know this may not be the case, as it's hard to put every bit of info into these questions, but still just a thought. Best of luck to you!

I'm no expert and I'm only 14 (don't count me out yet, though!) , so don't read into my answer too much but . . .

Curling into a ball is perfectly normal sleeping posture. It's got sometihng to do with feleing safe while you sleep because when oyu sleep is one of the times when you are most vulnerable.

As for sleeping on you, I used to do that to my Dad. It's also a comfort thing; it feels safer. At least, that's what I thought when I was little.

I don't know how accurate my answer is but I hope it helps. You may want to do a little research on sleeping positions if you're really worried about it.

You say that your wife sends her off to bed,and by the sound of it you work long hours and she's usually in bed when you get home. It just sounds to me as if she misses you and wants to get close to her daddy, as close as possible!!

I don't know if it's practical at all but maybe when you get home you could go up to her room and read her a story and just spend a little time with her, tuck her in, let her know that her daddy has made time to be with.

If you do I bet that, after a week or so, she'll start to feel less of a need to come and find you and sleep on you!

Your little girl needs the comfort of someone she loves and she likes the warmth of your body. Little ones sleep in many different positions and she's just fine. She probably comes to the couch or carpet to be near the people she loves. Give her lots of loving and cuddling. And after she falls asleep, put her back in her bed.

it sounds like she isn't getting enough time with you. you say you come in from work and fall asleep on the couch. so that means you work late evenings or nights. so she isn't seeing you any of those times. try makeing more time for her and see if that helps her at all. she maybe comming out to the carpet to sleep cause she knows when you get home your going to sleep on the couch.

Go sleep in your bed instead of the couch and put a gate at her door so she can't leave her room at night. You don't want her wandering around at night--she could figure out how to open the door or get into something she shouldn't. Safetywise, she should be in her room.

She just feels comforted when she sleeps on you. She knows that nothing can harm her when you are sround. Maybe she is afraid of a shadow in her room and thinks it iis a monster. She knows dad will protect her, and she is able to sleep. Her curling up on you is another way of making sure nothing can "get" her, and it's a way to keep her body warm. She is fine, it's just a phase.

No...nothing is wrong with your daughter. She just likes to sleep on you!! LOL!! Many children grow accustomed to sleeping with their parents and find it difficult to readjust to sleeping on their own once they get older. Think of the women that you may have dated, some were extremely affectionate, others maybe not so much. Some were cuddlers, some weren't. Your daughter is obviously a cuddler!! :) Stop freaking out and enjoy your baby girl...she's fine.

she just loves her dad and wants to be close to him. If you are coming home from work and going straight to sleep, she is probably just missing you and seeing you when she can, even in her sleep. But how does she sleep on your back if you are sleeping upright?? Don't worry about kids not staying in their bed, she will grow out of it, she won't go to college still sleeping on your back. Enjoy this, it doesn't last forever.
