My MIL has just been diagnosed with cancer. She went to the doc for an MRI to look at her back because she was experiencing longterm pain. They found lump on spine. CAT and PET revealed lump in breast (second time, first was 15 yrs ago - believed to be source), also found lump on bone in arm, on ribs, and another spot on bone. Brain, heart, and lungs look ok. Doc told her that people live 15 years with this prognosis.. Is that crap or is he telling truth?

My DH lost his dad 5 years ago in an accident and he's been looking at losing his mom, she's also in congestive heart failure (14 yrs and counting) and has chronic asthma, etc. She already takes 20+ meds 2x daily for all of it. I'm just searching for anyone elses' experience in the matter. They said breast was stage 4.

if she has congestive heart failure, she is not a good candidate for aggressive treatment of her cancer, don't count on 15 more years in this case. Make sure she has her legal affairs in order.

Definitely not 15 years. it sounds like secondary cancer if it has spread to various parts in the body. If it already stage 4 i would say around a year. It will just continue to spread and growth throughout her body.
