As soon as I close my eyes I get R.E.M. It's very annoying and it stresses out my eyes and causes some pain.
Does anyone else experience this?....or know why this happens?
I searched the internet and couldn't find a single thing.

Any replies are more than welcome!!! - please

that is not REM, that is nystagmus, see an ophtalmologist.

It's actually not possible at all to experience the REM cycle of sleep while you are awake. In order to reach REM sleep you must pass through the other 3 sleep cycles. While you are lying in bed, you can fall slightly asleep and feel yourself "dreaming." However, that is only the first sleep cycle, and your "dreams" are likely only your imagination running while you aren't paying as much attention as you were when you were still awake.

It's not possible to get R.E.M. prior to falling asleep. Perhaps your eyes are just twitching.

a lot of times when you're stressed, your eyes will twitch rapidly. when you go to bed at night, try clearing your mind so you're not stressing out instead of sleeping. you may not even realize it but your mind is probably just running so just take some deep breaths and try to fall asleep.

Eyes are the mirror of the mind and reflects the mind. Keep your mind patient and calm, you will get relief. Better chant holy prayers while sleeping(lying straight) It has always helped.

All I know is that R.E.M. causes dreams to occur. If you clear your mind before going to sleep you wont have any dreams thus eliminating R.E.M.

I agree with 'the only' it sounds like nystagmus which could be a symptom of something more serious.
Who other than your boyfriend told you that it was REM?

Go see a doctor.

REM happens well after "falling asleep." maybe you are still fully awake and your eyes still want to move around. maybe you have some kind of disorder. i would ask your doctor about it

from my understanding, R.E.M.s happen at the state of sleep when you start dreaming. are you sure your eyes aren't just twitching?
