I hear what you are trying to say, but - for the Christian, it's somewhat of a commandment:

1 Peter 3:15 "But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, **always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you**, yet with gentleness and reverence;"

The intellect is one way to the heart. I know it was for me...I struggled with the faith mightily in college....but - I read the evidence in so many great works from so many great thinkers (Augustine, Aquinas, Chrysostom, The Capadocian Fathers) who appealed to my intellect...and I became "ready to make a defense".

Apologetics establishes what we believe and why we believe it. Since apologetics is based in God's Word, then it provides answers to questions that people ask us concerning our faith. It is a tool to reaffirm our faith to ourselves, and to share it with others. "The Word" becomes paramount in the life of a true Believer, and it's in the Word that we find answers to life's often troubling questions. The provision is guaranteed to bring understanding that is in opposition to the world's view, or the world's advice.

Apologetics makes sense of our Bible-based faith, not the other way around.

Apologetics is the defense of the faith, to state what is true and what is false. You likely practice "apologetics" on a personal level, every time you defend yourself with statements that people make about you that are either true or false.

Jesus said He is true and His Words are true, and anything that anyone says contrary to Him, is false. The Bible is the final and only authority.

C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite apologetic authors who was an atheist for many years..

I believe its important because we have to question our belief structure, as he did, and rationalize it to the point of how it will manifests itself and coexists with your everyday living. Our questions to ourselves and others followed by active reseasrch will inevitably become a form of apologia through our conversations....
