One thing to remember is that the new testament was not in existence at the time of Jesus. They were living it at the time. Jesus did on many occasions point out verses of the Old Testament. One good reference for this is Matthew 4:1-11 where you see Satan abusing scripture and Jesus quoting it.

The earliest book of the New Testament was written after Jesus died/ascended....
As far as the Old Testament, Jesus says in Luke 10 that loving God and loving others as ourselves is the whole of the Law and the Prophets.
Edit: Why a thumbs down? I made two factually correct statements. What gives?

When he was tempted by Satan in the wilderness he quoted from Deuteronomy three times. Twice from Chapter 6 and once from Chapter 8. On the cross he quoted the opening sentence from Psalms 22: "My God, My God, Why has thou forsaken me."
You may be interested to know that Satan also quoted Scripture when he was tempting Jesus in the wilderness (from Ps. 91, I believe).
EDIT: Read any bible with foot notes or use www.biblegateway.com because as you read Jesus' words you can use the footnotes to see where he is quoting from.
babydoll- That was Satan quoting from Psalms in Matthew 4:6

He referred to scripture many times.
The word Bible is a Greek word meaning book if you were being literal.

In a way. I'm sure that he was familiar with the Torah (sp?) which is the Old Testament of the Bible, the rest of it (The New Testament) was written and edited and re-edited over the next four hundred years until all of the non-Catholic "heretics" and their version of the Bible were destroyed. He also never referred tot he third installment, the Qu'ran.

Sure he did...the parts that were already written before he came. On numerous occasions he referred to prophecies and stories from the old testament...he also referred to the laws.
