Why do we need to convince you?

Believing in Evolution is not about pushing Religion out. No one wants to kill churches off.

There are people who belive and people who don't. All that is required is to respect each others beliefs and leave them to do as they will

Well, even if you feel that the theory is weak (I don't, and nobody of any stature does either) it IS a fully thought scientific theory with all that entails (mainly, that it can be used to successfully predict future outcomes, and that it can be falsified.)

This alone ranks it far above creationism, which has never had any success at designing a flu vaccine for next year's flu virus, based on how we think it's going to evolve over that time. Also, to falsify creationist claims you have to prove that god doesn't exist.

I'm sure you know that proving a negative is impossible, and that the burden of proof is always on the person making extraordinary claims. Scientists have a clear, testable framework to explain how we became the way we are today. Creationists say there's a god who they can't measure, can't reliably communicate with, and can't prove exists, who did it all. And they're fuzzy about the rest.

Seriously. Which side you would you want to be on?

Do you really want to be on the same side that burned people who said that the earth rotates around the sun because it upset their little fairytale that the earth was the center of the universe?

Just do some unbiased reading and make your own mind up. Take a biology class. Take a chemistry class. Read the bible, too. And the Koran, and the Talmud, and everything else you can get your hands on.

The creationists want one thing, really, and that is to prevent you from making an informed decision about any of this. But if you educate yourself you'll see them for what they are - religious crackpots.

Good luck!

Catholic: Evolution exists. No I don't believe that a gorilla is my 10th power great grandparent, but it does exist on some level. Look at bacteria and the recent mrsa scare. That bacteria was once something that could be killed by mild antibiotics. It has since adapted and can now resist that same antibiotic. That is proof of evolution.

It is OK to stay true to your beliefs and convictions and be open to new ideas. Keep your core faith and then question everything else until you understand it.

If all of the scientific evidence from people who have devoted their lives to the study of the origins of humanity has not convinced you, I certainly can't.

Here's a better question: if you believe in creationism, answer these questions for me:

1. If Adam and Eve were the first people created by God, where did all of the other people come from that Cain met in his travels? Why was their creation not mentioned?
2. Where do all of the different races come from?
3. Why do we have "defunct" organs?

I could go on but just answer those three questions and maybe I'll be willing to give creationism another look.

You sound like one of those people that just won't get it no matter how it explained to you which is fine. Not everyone is capable of understanding these things and life would be no fun if we all agreed on everything so enjoy whatever you believe. Trying to convince someone who either doesn't want to know or just is incapable of understanding seems like a waste of effort.

Evolution isn't about winning 'converts,' it's about analysing all the evidence and seeing how/if it fits together. It's not something one can be 'convinced' of in a few words, anymore than one becomes 'convinced' of jet engine maintainance. One learns it, and learning takes time and effort.

All the evidence supports the very strong theory of evolution. And it is the only scientific theory there is about the origin of the species.

look at the people around you, are they all the same, or are some better then the others, more successful, beautiful, healthier.
well the fact is the better people around you have a better chance for having successful children, and in the long run, more of their offspring will survive, so in 10000 generations only the descendants of the best people will stay.
are you one of the better people, or is your human version becoming extinct.

Why? If you wanted to be convinced of the truth of that, you'd go to the science section and ask your question. The truth is you don't really want to know.
