Hi, I have a lunch date with someone from work, and was just wondering if there's any significance of lunch, rather than a full dinner date?

Lunch is a good first step in getting that dinner date, if you did want it. If you're really interested in this person, lunch is a great, casual way to get to know them and see if they are interested in you. It's alot less pressure then a full dinner date.
But on the other hand, if you just want to have lunch with this person as a friend, there's no pressure to call it a date or assume its anything more than a lunch between friends.
Good luck!

Obviously it is less formal, and there is less pressure, if you meet for lunch rather than dinner. Lunch has a definite beginning and an end -- unlike dinner which can seem to drag on forever if you decide that you do not like the person, but you don't know how to politely end it.

Isn't it obvious?

A lunch date limits the time you spend with each other, so if it doesn't work out, you know the date has to end by a specific time. If you are having dinner, it is awkward to end the date early if you want.

No -- it's just lunch. On the other hand, if either one of you think it might lead to dinner at some point, lunch is a great way to break the ice in a very limited time frame. If it's a total waste of time, at least it's only an hour, instead of an entire evening! :-)

Lunch dates are typically of a shorter duration, alcohol is not typically involved (where it might be on a dinner date), and it's a good way to check out a situation with someone without feeling obligated to deal with a longer dinner date if things just aren't going well.

Lunch dates are good first dates...

Lunch is just lunch. It's friendly. To be honest, even outside of work, I would never consider lunch a date. Lunch is just a casual meal to meet and talk or whatever.

Hmm...I don't see a huge difference between the two, I mean either way you're going out to eat and conversate..it's just one is during the daytime and one is in the evening right?

Suggest the full blown dinner date and see what they say :) Who wouldn't want to have a nice night and a good meal?

*Have fun.

No, lunch is just lunch. It's not even a real date.

lunch dates are much less personal and are better on a get-to-know each other scale.
