Sin is an outdated concept. Christians, and other religious people, think there is some trait or substance, called "sin", that is passed down from generation to generation. That simply isn't the case.
"Sin" is basically just a list of rules made up by 2000 year old zealots, and added to, deleted from, and amended by more recent apologists. In reality, morality is more basic than that. We evolved a morality because it helps us live close to each other in relative peace. That morality evolves as society evolves. Some of that is hardwired into our genes and is know as our "human nature" or "instincts". Though, genetic evolution moves much more slowly than our societal evolution. On top of our instincts, we've developed codes of conduct that help our society survive among other societies. That is reflected in our laws, taboos, and social mores.
This means that you should trust yourself. Your should figure out your own place and path in society, and determine, for yourself, how you wish others to think of you and how you value others in society. This is much more complicated than just following old lists of rules. It means that you have to think for yourself.

By hereditary sin I assume you mean generational curses and those can be broken and people can be delivered from hereditary sin. Your flesh has no value. It came from dirt and will return to dirt. God is concerned with your soul. A clean soul filled with the Holy Spirit can deny the flesh. The flesh will always want to sin but you can deny that desire. So we can't trust ourselves but we trust the Holy Spirit for wisdom, strength and courage to deny our flesh.

You can learn to trust again through salvation. Though sin is "hereditary", when one comes to the realization of their need for salvation, they can begin life anew in Jesus Christ, learning all the traits for a Christian life that might not have been present in their sinful past.

Actually no...any sin (hereditary or no) is just dust and mud covering the gold nugget within. Trust the gold within. Sin is not who you are...that is why you can trust your true self. That self is love.

Actually, you cannot trust yourself. This is why our country's founding fathers put checks and balances into your Constitution, and any wise person creates an accountability circle by giving his close friends and relatives permission to give honest criticism about personality traits that we may be in denial about.
Even secular psychologists admit that many of us are experts on self-deceit.

Hate my fleshy body-it's full of sin and rebellion.
And no, I can't trust myself. That's why I have the lovely Holy Ghost to back me up. Even if it requires a little pain here and there.
