"A treasure has been hidden somewhere on campus," it begins. "To find the treasure, you must first solve a series of clues that will lead you to locations across campus ... only then will the treasure - $1,000 in cash - be yours!"
Created in hopes of harnessing the DaVinci Code hysteria to cajole students into attending the first few home football games, the treasure hunt, dubbed "The Friedgen Code," seems to have it all. Hidden treasure, cryptic clues and one grand in cash - who wouldn't be hooked?
Peter Greberis, for one.
"I don't really have that much free time," the sophomore architecture major said. "The odds of me winning aren't that high."
Despite the adventurous game's appeal, two weeks after the final clue, no one has solved the code, and the campus seems to lack any sort of buzz about winning the prize, even among avid football fans like Greberis. In fact, many don't even know the game exists.
By providing clues via e-mail to students who reserved tickets through the Terrapin Ticket Office, the Athletics Department hoped to drive up attendance at the first few home football games, said Adrienne Burrows, the Athletics Department official who is coordinating the contest.
The first three home games actually had a lower attendance this year than the previous season, dropping from an average of 51,902 in 2005 to 47,595 in 2006.
Vinnie Smith, a freshman engineering major, said he just has "other things" on his mind. Smith said he never received e-mails about the game, but has heard of it. Other students said they don't even look at the e-mails from the ticket office.
Those who are familiar with the game still don't show much interest. Tim Bunales, a freshman chemistry major, said the clues he has seen have left him scratching his head.
The first clue, distributed via e-mail said: "You must begin at the Five - where Scholarship, Athletics, Community Service, Speech and Performing Arts converge. Stand on the axis and the Hour of Prime will point the way."
The second and third clues included similar riddles and strings of numbers. When, even after the third clue was distributed, no one had found the prize, contest coordinators released a "bonus clue" in The Diamondback which is a co-sponsor of the game, calling it the final clue. That was two weeks ago.
Burrows said no one has come forward to claim the prize.
Still, she did not seem worried.
Though there is no way to gauge how many people have been participating, she said she thought there was some interest in the game based on the amount of traffic in the places where the clues lead.
She said the clues are meant to be hard to force students to be "persistent and clever" to find the money.

No, there isn't a program that will crack it for you. Do a character count. How many A,B,C,D,E,F all through the alphabet. Any character that is used double like yy is either ee or oo Use a word processor to change the characters. I did some of it - but it will take too long to do all of it.
Good luck! lol

Call the NSA. They'll love that sort of stuff. Actually, given that the Constitution is disregarded by this administration, it's quite possible they will call you.
