I notice that when something good happens in my life, whether I did well on an exam or finally got an interview, I'll say "thank you God!" and go about my happy day.

But during those times when I get bad news or nothing seems to be going right, I tend to pray more and hope things get better. Sometimes I can't help but wonder if maybe God is giving me the bad so I can give Him more attention? It seems almost backwards because then I feel like a hypocrite and only pray when things go wrong, but I also feel like maybe He's sending me a signal like "hey, don't forget I'm here!" I dunno, what do you think?

God is always there. It is just at the times when you are lonely or in the most need that you notice or strive to make the connection stronger. Perhaps you should try to look at the small things in life and be thankful there. Or, if you see someone else having a difficult time pray for them. I always find when I have a mindful day, my day has been a good one.
Bright blessings!

For me God is with you more when you are sad. When you are happy you don't really need God. Everyone who is sad needs to know that someone is there for them. This is true for ALL people. If people can't at least comprehend that someone cares for them whether that someone is a family member, a belief in God, or a sense of self then often times they will be lost. That is when they turn to harmful tactics in order to gain attention from others, or feel like they have some sort of connection with reality (cutting).

Occasionally on my job, I have to monitor suicidal, depressed, and mentally ill people. Sometimes a religious preference is stated on their chart, sometimes "non" is put down. Sometimes I think that people put a religion down, even if they may not be religious to appease their parents or family who may be religious.

God blesse us not just because we pray. God also blesse us because we are His children and are righteous in Christ. The Holy Spirit who lives in us is our Comforter never leaves us nor forsake us and always upholds us. We can pray and especially in the Spirit for all things (that happen to us ,good or bad) to work together for the good of us who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:26-28) We live in an inperfect world so that sometimes things may not work right. But we can trust God to work the bad occasions out for our good. When you adopt this way of prayer you can be in good spirit all the time because you know the whatever bad that comes your way God can work it for your good as you put your trust and faith in Him. God bless you.

Equally, but we just want Him more when we are sad. The Holy Spirit is the Great Comforter. Praise the Lord.

God is with you yery near only when you are peaceful. At times of happiness & sorrow he is alittle away as both are emotions.Emotions are the act of the mind.Your mental frequency will be high.At that time God will be away.

Neither. He is always with us, whether we can sense Him or not. It doesn't matter if we are aware of His presence or not; if we are happy, sad or some other emotion. He never leaves us nor forsakes us.
There ARE times when we are more conscious of Him, but this does not change the fact that He never leaves us.

Your God sounds more like a sibling starved for attention than an all-powerful savior and benefactor.

Maybe you should give yourself more credit for the things you accomplish, those could've been done by you, yourself, rather than facilitated by God.

Let's be clear about this... God sees you when you're sleeping; he knows when you're awake; he knows when you've been bad or good; so you better be good for goodness sake.

(He kind of reminds me of someone else I know.)

I don't like polls and surveys.

I think when we are happy he is walking with us and rejoicing. I think that when we are sad he is carrying us, whispering encouragement in our ears, sending others to offer encouragement and drying our tears.
