While I understand that the use of caps most often give the impression that the typer is yelling, I do think there are exceptions worth noting. Sometimes for instance, if there is an IMPORTANT POINT that I would like to STRESS, I will use caps just so that visually these words will stand out. There are no temper fluctuations involved, I just don't want my reader to miss a certain point. I think anyone reading evenly proportioned capitals like that in computer text can differentiate between this and realize she is not being yelled at but rather more clearly spoken to...

People think you are shouting when you use caps, but I've known a lot of folks that just preferred using caps because they find it easier to read. I don't mind at all when someone uses all caps as long as I can understand what they are saying.

CAPS mean you're shouting or yelling and hence they're considered rude.

However, if you have to sometimes make a very strong point or yell at the other person, do use caps, never otherwise.

Good luck.

Since you are on line, I'm quite sure you know the answer but for the record, there are protocol and rules in everything we do. All caps in the computer world is shouting and most people don't care to be shouted at.

Caps are often considered to symbolise yelling.

Many people find poor grammar and punctuation offensive.

Plus it is very difficult to read an entire paragraph that is all upper case... I try but usually give up, not worth straining my eyes for that.
I can handle light chatspeak no problem, but not caps.

Because it is like shouting at someone over the computer...not only that, don't you find it hard to read something in all caps?
