I would say whatever way you think best. I would imagine the 'proper' way would be to the front, especially as some people actually fold the first sheet into a triangle, so this would be neater looking if paper was at front. Personally, I prefer to the wall, but if it goes on holder and is at the front, I don't get bothered by it. As long as I have toilet roll I'm happy!

Lol... I also often correct it if I'm at someone's house... haha.
This was actually mentioned in a great book called Personality Plus by Florence Littauer. It is about the four temprements and people's personalities.
It is usually the Melancholy temprement that gets hung up about which way the toilet roll faces... they specifically mention this.
And when the author mentions it as seminars, Melancholy people actually come up to her and thank her for pointing this out... because their spouses who are usually the opposite personality just don't understand why it is such a big deal! Hehe.
