I'm not sure what that message means. DCIM ('digital camera images') is the root folder all digital cameras use - your photographs will be inside that in another folder. I'm not sure how a folder can be said have 'stopped working'. What I would suggest is that you use a card reader to download the pictures, rather than connect the camera direct to the computer. This does have the incidental advantage of not using the camera batteries. You can then reformat the card in camera when you have the pictures safely downloaded.
