hi for months we had fleas, we used frontline and spray from vet
nitemare but we think we got rid of adult fleas as we havent seen any for 3 weeks or more.
trouble is we are not sure whther there are still eggs in the carpets?
we cant tell!
our dog dosent itch as much now.
but how do we tell about the eggs?
how do we get rid of the eggs? cos the sprays say they kill eggs but i dont see how they do as they are cocooned?
what should we do? obvioulsy if we try to bring the eggs out in the carpet (by putting the heatig on etc) we will have to get rid of them
do we wait n see if we see them, scoop them up with the hoover after we put the heating on?
im not buying any more sprays as i spent over £30 pounds on 2 x bottles of spray from vets.
please help?
do you think it sounds like there arent any eggs (as would they not have hatched in the past 3 weeks?)

Firstly, there is no way that you will see flea eggs with the naked eye, so one must assume that if you have cats or dogs, no matter how effective a flea treatment you have, there will be some eggs present in the house. These will mostly be on bedding and near to where the dog lies.
Although Frontline kills eggs it will only kill those that it is in contact with, either directly or via the adults. The best product for affecting eggs is, unfortunately for you, a spray called Acclaim, which prevents development of flea eggs for 12 months. Otherwise, frequent vaccuming and washing of pet bedding/cushion covers etc will remove most of the eggs.
To be honest, unless your pet has flea allergic dermatitis (flea allergy) I wouldn't worry about a few eggs left over-good house hygiene will take care of the majority.

Sorry you have had such trouble with this problem. I don't know much about the egg stage but one thing I was told by my vet recently is that fleas are becoming resistant to 'Frontline'. My vets have stopped supplying it and now supply 'Stronghold' instead. It sounds as though you have done everything you can for the moment. The next stage if you see any more fleas may be to have your home fumigated. It sounds drastic but it is a sure way to ensure that all the eggs and fleas are eradicated from your home. My sister had to have this done in a property she rented out to a couple who had a cat. There didn't seem to be a problem until she moved back in and put the heating on. The problem soon made itself known!

Eggs can take a varying amount of time to hatch - if conditions aren't right, they can lay dormant for as long as it takes really.
House sprays can indeed kill eggs, but not all of them do. Indorex, Acclaim and Staykil are good sprays, but they don't kill eggs. To combat this, you have to spray your house once, turn up your heating to encourage the eggs to hatch, then spray again about 10-14 days later. Or, you can get Skoosh spray from a vets, which does kill eggs and larvae.
Just check your dog for fleas or flea dirts, if you don't see them I think you can assume you're safe. If you do, try the above regime.
And may I also thank you for being one of the very few, if not the only, people on here who actually knows which flea products to use. Most people are feeding their animals garlic, washing them in dish soap and sprinkling salt round their houses.

If you vaccum daily then your home should be rid of the flea eggs. Be sure to vaccum thoroughly every where. If you have a vaccum that requires bags be sure to throw the bag in the garbage outside immediately. If it is bagless, be sure to empty it and throw the garbage bag outside.
If you used regular Frontline, I would suggest that the next time you treat use the Frontline Plus. It will kill the eggs, larvee and the adult fleas.

keep up with the frontline quarterly, and use Indorex or Acclaim on the carpets at the same time. Cheaper to buy online than from the vets.
If you have the carpets steam cleaned you can be sure that all the fleas and eggs are gone.

Just keep using the frontline. Your dog will pick up fleas from other dogs and the grass. Use every six weeks for protection against ticks as well.
