We know each other pretty well, but it's rare that we get the occasion to just talk. This weekend my fiance and I are going to their cabin in the mountains. We'll be home alone and the guys are going fishing.

She loves to talk about her family etc.. but give me some ideas. Should I bring up our wedding, or her future grand kids?

FMIL love to feel like they are needed, just like anyone does. So my advice would be to ask for food recipes or tips on anything...flower garden, shopping, getting stains out of laundry. Talk about your fiance's habits for example if it's hard to wake him up in the morning. She might have a funny story to share or a trick she used when he was a kid. Anything really works. Remember she is probably feeling the same stress you are and wants to know about you as you are about to marry her little boy. :)

Include her in the wedding planning. If you have any information about your wedding bring it along (wedding planner book, pictures, etc). I would hold off on the future kids until after the wedding. She will appreciate that you are including her in the wedding plans.

Do not try to plan a script, just be yourself with her.

I wouldn't bring up the wedding or grandkids unless she does. I usually try to talk about things that I know she's interested in like tv shows, music, and cooking. I think that talking about these things will ease into talking about other things and I think you'll be able to get to know eachother when you talk.

I would certainly discuss the wedding and her role for the 'big day'. From my experience the mother of the groom usually likes to discuss what she is going to wear and then compliment her on her choice. All else failing just get drunk and have a giggle!

I would let her initiate the conversation topics and just be sweet and answer politely. Never let your guard down and start talking "frankly."

Ask her if she would bring your H2B baby pictures. That would make for great bonding time and great conversation.

Good luck

Just talk about whatever comes naturally.
