I pray to Him but I just can't feel him anymore! I really want to, I want to put everything in His hands and trust in Him, but I just can't feel his presense in me or around me. I pray wholeheartdly and as sincerely as i can manage but I just feel like there is no one around. When I was younger i took if for granted that I had God in me....now im older (and right now i REALLY need Him) it seems like im talking to myself. Please someone help me. Or point God on my direction!

While i appreciate all your beliefs, I would also like to add that I am talking about MY God, I have my own beliefs and ideas and in turn respect others. I know that religion is often a heated topic with some, but i am merely asking for help as i seem to have lost my way somehow. I need advice and advice only.

I am appalled by peoples intolerance to other peoples beliefs. Shocking in this day and age to put ANYONE down who is trying to help themselves from the depths of HELL as i am also a drug addict. Go on and persecute(sp??!) me for that. I didnt mention for fear of slander. But now i dont really hold people with narrow minds and intolerance in high esteem. Thank you to those who are concerned enough to leave advice and not leave provocative comments cos they are just mad at religion.

Hello, yes God does sometimes feel distant, you are not alone in that feeling. David wrote about it in many psalms. There is no magic prayer formula for getting the feeling back, but I do know that it's not our feelings that count at these times, it's our faith and knowledge of God. He said He will never leave you nor forsake you, and he won't. You know God cannot lie, so it's your feelings that are lying to you, because he is there right now. It's great that you have not lost your faith. Remember the story of the disciples in the boat when the storm came up, they lost faith but Jesus was there with them. They knew the miracles he had done and they knew who he was, but they still panicked. We all tend to panic when we follow Jesus into a storm, but he is looking always to see how our faith holds up. Don't give up on that. I will pray that God will guide you to the right place to get the help you need, and that the negative comments from this forum will not stay in your mind, only those that will build you up.

I have been in a similar situation to you, but I have learned that feelings, and signs and wonders are not the be all and end all. God never leaves us or forsakes us.
Usually I find if I am too busy asking, nattering, pleading etc in my prayers, I forget to thank him for what he has already done and forget to listen! Or we are not asking the right thing.
Also if you feel he has not answered your prayer it might because the timing is not yet right, He has even bigger and better for you. His answer at this present time might simply "not yet!"
He holds the time table and the check list.
He might talk to you in many ways, in your head, through your readings through things other people say etc. Our job is to stop talking and listen. Listen carefully to what other people are saying about your situation and ask yourself if this could be Biblically correct - ie that it does not contradict the Bible, which is God's word. If someone says you should solve your problems by jumping off the Clifton Suspension Bridge - that is hardly scriptural, is it! God would never ask you to do that!
He may ask you to do things which maybe you feel you cannot do, but he gives you the strength to do it! Just think of the long term relief, for the brief time of discomfort! Two scriptures come to mind as I write: I will never leave you or forsake you (give up on you), and I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Unfortunately I am not able to find the reference, chapter and verse as I am at the library and there is no concordance here.
I wish I could put my arms around you and give you a big hug, but I do not know where you are, so just consider yourself hugged!
You will get through this crisis. Remember, God is near.

Firstly let me say I am appalled at the way some of the fellow users of this section treat a cry for help..
We all have our own god. Something deep within ourselves, and to loose our god implies that we have lost all confidence in ourselves. In this situation a person needs a boost to their ego. They need to look at the goodness within themselves. Take a look around at other people who in one way or another are not as well situated as yourself. There is always someone that we can look at and say they are worse off than we are. Look at them and feel better for not being where they are. By doing this regularly you should find that you will lift yourself and thus find the inner god which has elluded you.
Good luck and don`t give up the fight....

God was never there in the first place.
Religions get people to use their imagination, and so it is an imaginery God.
The real spiritual teachings is about praying to your own spirit - the greater part of yourself.
Spiritual awareness is all about the knowledge within you, and tapping into that knowledge.
Check out 'The Talmud Jmmanuel' text, etc etc follow that up.

I'm sorry that is the place in your journey that you are at right now. Don't listen to those who would condemn you. That is not the voice of God to you. We all must go through times that feel like 'the valley of the shadow of death'. It doesn't necessarily mean you are doing something wrong. Some people refer to this season as the desert season or the wilderness. If youre interested you can find books on the subject, google it or read about people's wilderness experiences in the bible. What is important however is that you receive peace now and know that God will never, ever leave you. He loves you passionately and sings loves songs over you even if you can't feel his presence right now.
His promises of unconditional love are true for you even if they don't feel true right now. He will not reject you. He does not condemn you. He does not require that you do more to please Him.
Don't feel condemned if you experience doubts right now. It is part of the journey. Don't let it scare you... sometimes God strips away things in our life - including a sense of his presence, hearing his voice, our confident faith - to expose the deep things of our hearts and to bring us a more refined faith. You won't feel this way forever... it is for a season...God is with you and you can have peace in this difficult time. Even when you feel God is distant you can rest securely in the fact that He is with you, He is in fact IN you and He is fighting on your behalf. Wait on the Lord and you will surely see His goodness in the land of the living.
I find psalm 23 a very supportive psalm when i feel like you describe.

Try this trick:
- Visit the nearest hospital and meet people who are in comma, bad accident, dying people. Look at the nurse and doctors, they gave up when these people death. You might have different feeling and experiences.
- Visit the poor people, orphan, homeless then think how lucky you are. Help them with all your heart you will see the wind of bless sweeping your face.
- Visit the grave yard. You will see many people crying for their lost.

if you want your problems to go away do something constructive. You don't need a god all people are capable of great things. Instead of putting trust in your imaginary friend try having a little faith in yourself.

Feeling God is great! But you have to be really careful- you must not become dependant on feeling. That is the same as becoming dependant on sight, touch, or any other sense that gives assurance to our natural selves, so we don't have to step out on faith.
When Jesus rose from the dead, Thomas still felt like he had lost Him. He couldn't believe until he saw Jesus and touched Him. Jesus appeared to him, and after Thomas saw and touched Him and believed, Jesus said to him "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are the people who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29).
Jesus wants us to have faith in Him, to trust Him, and take Him at His Word. He said "Remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20). God promised He would never leave us or abandon us (Hebrews 15:5), and that He will remain faithful to us even if we are unfaithful to Him (2 Timothy 2:13). This is not to say that we are still saved if we walk away from Him, but that He is there, not far from any of us, waiting for the prodigal child to come home.
And if we have confessed and forsaken our sins to Him, and believed His Word, and have surrendered our lives to Him as our Lord and King, and known Him as Savior and Friend, then we must not doubt that He is with us. Needing to feel Him can be a crutch so we don't have to have real faith. Real faith takes God at His Word that He will keep the promises He made to us in the Bible, to never leave or abandon us. If you do that, your heart will draw near to God. And what does the Bible say about that? Read James 4:8.
It would be wonderful if we could all feel God 100% of the time, but the reality is, is that doesn't usually happen. Instead, we need to believe Him based on His word, and when we do that, we will move into a closer relationship with Him. And yes, that means we will end up feeling Him even more! If you believe He is there when you can't feel, see, or touch Him then you will actually become more sensitive to His presence because of your faith and His Word working in you. So don't give up! Don't dispair! Seek Him by FAITH and you WILL find Him!
I hope this helps. God bless!

Congratulations, you are taking the first steps to maturity. When you realise that there is no God and you have been deluding yourself by sensing him in the first place and thrown away childish things, then you will have arrived at a true starting point for spiritual growth.
