The two banks that have supported these programs in the past have declined to do so this year. Therefore the "Holiday loan" based on pay stubs as you knew it will not be offered by any of tax preparation firms. There has been a rumor that the Emerald Card program that H&R Block has been using for some time will offer a loan on that card (which is a preloaded debit card) in the pre-holiday period. I can find nothing in there advertising that supports that rumor at the moment. We know they are considering something like this because they had to file documents with Federal regulators. It appears that the interest rates will be higher than the old holiday loans. The intent is to pay the loans back with income tax refunds as was the case before. This will mean however that all of your refund will be going to that debit card regardless of how much you owe. Of course anything that is left over after the fees, loans and the such are paid will remain on the card available for you to use. By the way H&R Block will be drawing interest on that money until you use it.

First of all, you are not getting a refund. Maybe you are refering to a Refund Anticipation Loan. Notice that I indicated a loan which means when you get your W2 forms then you have to settled up later when filing your taxes for 2007. Suggest that you check their site. H & R is on the internet.

if you are anticipating a refund, just change you w-4 exemptions for the rest of the year to match that refund and you'll get the money in increased take-home pay with no loan fees. - you have 9-10 paycheck left in the year

You can't. Those "early bird" loans are not longer available. Your return can't be filed until after January 1st. You'll need your Form W-2 as well. The tax prep places won't be doing them from pay stubs any more, either. Too much fraud was involved.

Put your papers back away in a safe place. H&R isn't doing the loans in November this year - the bank that was doing them quit doing them.

Sorry but no preseason loans will be offered this year. This question has come up several times. There are going to be some disappointed people expecting the loans to be offered.
