Everyone believes what they think to be right, and that to be righteous. Assuming a god exists, and he laid out all of his teachings before me, I would still decide for myself what is right and what is wrong. And assuming a god just came into existence along with everything else at the begining of time, what did he/she do in order to achieve judgement over others?

Furthermore, it would be okay if we chose that we wanted to exist, but instead we are thrust into a set of rules we did not initially agree to anyways.

If you give birth to a child, do you own them? you are charged to take care of them, but you don't own them.

We have free will Melty, we can choose him or not choose him. You ask questions that as a Mormon I know the answer to, but I prefer not to get into the massively weird here. However, i do believe that we choose to exist. That's one thing I will say here. We did choose, we just don't remember, because we are here to be tested.

God is eternal. He created us, we follow the rules, or we don't. Like a living breathing chess set sort of. He set them because this is his game.

depends which religion you are looking at. Christianity believes that God created the universe and everything with it, so therefore, being the Creator He has earned the right to determine righteousness. The belief includes free will, meaning even though God has this power, we can still choose what we want to believe.

edit

we do not own our children because we are all God's children in the eyes of Christianity. As parents it is our duty to the Lord to guide our children in God's light.

good question

depends on who/what God is and who/what you are..

see how that would affect the answer

my favorite idea is the one that you are actually a part of God or part of a god and so are part and parcel with his righteousness

as for the "agreed to" part....well it may be that we just don't remember agreeing and really have somewhere down the line. or that you are perfectly right that you never agreed but then you do seemed concerned like you have offended or been offended.

I believe you know right from wrong but if you are part of a society or a group in a society it would be well to know what rules they are playing the game by. and abiding to those rules as long as they are good rules and just rules isn't necessarily a bad thing to do.

as for rightousness that's between you and your God and no man can honestly judge lest he be you. but as for your God, i don't know but if your a part of him you may already know the answer as it would be your answer or at leist only knowable to you and not us except by through you ( in other words you would have to tell us for we could not know your relationship with your God )...see ?

Ask your God and see if he answers....

That's the best I can think to say...

'In the beginning God CREATED the heavens and the earth.' (read Genesis one). He therefore didn't just come 'into existence along with everything else', He has always been.

Secondly, God made us, and knows what is best for us; He therefore laid down the rules that make life worth living. Unfortunately, like the child who won't eat their greens, who insist on eating only fried foods and chocolate and sweets, heedless of the warnings of doctors and nutritionists, and of parents (or maybe some eat junk BECAUSE of their parents)we refuse to heed His warnings.

Yes, we are free to decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong; but as we are fallible human beings more prone to selfishness than altruism, it follows we would make bad choices. Better to trust the infallible God to tell us what's right and what's wrong. Moreover, God didn't just give us a set of rules to live by, He came in the form of man and died to set us free from the RESULT of our sinfulness. But this is imparted only to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
And those who accept Jesus as God, Lord and Saviour not only worship the one true God, they are INDWELT BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT. This is what marks out Christianity from any religion: it's not about rule-following, but about a RELATIONSHIP with God. With His help we can grow into the people He wants us to be. And like any GOOD father, He wants the best for His kids.

Also, every religion in the world is about 'Do': but Christianity is about 'DONE!' We cannot save ourselves, any more than the survivors of the Titanic could swim from where they were to land; they had to be picked up by ships. That is what Jesus is to mankind -- the liferaft, the ship, the Ark that keeps us from the penalty for our sin.

But you're right about one thing, we ARE free to ignore this and live as we see fit. However, the consequences are an eternity in hell. Why? Because EVERY sin we commit is against the eternal God, and has eternal consequences (i.e. alienation from God, Who CANNOT have sin in His presence. And a sin can only paid for by the shedding of blood (hence the animal sacrifices in the Old Testament,as a pointer the Lamb of God, Jesus). Jesus, being sinless, was able to die for every single sinner who ever lived: BUT the sinner MUST repent, and trust God only to save him.
It's no good someone saying 'I won't sin from now on'; even if they were capable of such a thing (and none are), they would still have to pay for their previous sins.

Don't kid yourself: God justly DEMANDS we worship Him (which means love Him, not follow some ritual). He does so because He has right of owbership over us, and wants us to have the best it's possible to have.

May God bless all who truly seek Him.

sorry if you've seen this before.
It's my belief that a loving, forgiving God would never condemn or pass judgment on a person. He would forgive you for just about any sin you could commit.

Rather, When you die and confront God, you become completely aware of your actions and the morality behind each decision you made.
Those people who feel so guilty because of the way they lived their life, that they can't stand to be in the presence of God will turn their backs on a God that still loves them.
They'll condemn themselves to their own personal hell of guilt and grief and torment.

If you are giving a moments time contemplating God's judgment justification or even denying he exists through evolution it shows that you are thinking about him..

Why would a God that does not exist cause us such need to deny what is not there.

You will never be able to understand God it is beyond any humans comprehension to fully understand his plans or reasoning and it is usually our pride or lack of morals to think negatively about our creator.

do you realize how GOD loves you? he gave someone like you that choice never created you like a robot control by Him.
He tells what is righteous? It has been set before He created you. Dude try to think of these: Anyhting is permissible but not everything is beneficial. HE knows what is beneficiable.

He is the creator!!! of everything We don't "agree" to his rules. We live to love and honor and believe in God! We were born free, free to choose how we live, God wants us to decide for ourselves. God is not rightous, only people have that failing.
To own a person is slavery. We do not "own" our children we love our children. that is why they get to move out when they grow up!!!

The Bible regards us as clay and Jehovah God as the potter.
Any artist has thr ight to break what he has made. No matter how good he is or how much his works fetch.

Because Jehovah created us, he knows what is best for us. If we are found faulty, he can dispose of us. He has that right.

(Isaiah 64:8) And now, O Jehovah, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are our Potter; and all of us are the work of your hand.

Haven't you noticed that God never actually says anything. People read and interpret a book and then tell you what God wants.

If you ask them to show you proof of their God they tell you you have to have faith.

Faith is defined as "belief that is not based on proof".

Why would you choose to belief in something without any proof?

You know what's right.
