I see these videos on the net or recruits recording their experiences in basic training and I'm wondering how they did that. I mean would the DI sorta kill you if you pull out a camera while he's teaching?

HOLY HEY-ZUES! I thought doughnuts were bad. Cell phones and cameras in the Squad Bay!? Not on my watch! There was a time when only your body, wedding ring and a religious medallion (the latter soon to be banned by the ACLU) entered training. I suspect it still is (tho now I'm inclined to ask some of our FNGs). I assume most of the video comes from the Public Affairs Dept and others contracted to record the inner workings of Boot - that's where my video came from (the second time, my first time thru - yeah, I did it twice - video was new and cameras were the size of a Mack truck). I tell you what, if I walked on deck and found some Plug with his camera phone I guaranteed he/she would have the best video ever - not that the battery would last through the whole evolution; he/she would still be shaking at their retirement ceremony!

The videos you see, weren't made by the recruits.

They were made by either military cameramen or by civilian film crews, like the discovery channel.

Anyone who tells you some recruit pulled out a phone or camera while in basic, is lying.

Your not allowed either a phone or a camera while in basic training.

We had a guy taking pictures of himself with his camera phone at one point. Y'know, macho ones of him sitting on his table with his rifle.

The recruit instructors found out about it, saw all the pretty photos on his phone and yelled at him for the better part of an hour, then sent him to the Company Sergeant Major to get screamed at half an hour.

In the Australian Army, they've got civilians that take photos from time to time. But any photos or videos you make yourself (typically with a camera phone, which aren't technically allowed in Australian recruit training units because of that) is a big no-no.

That's exactly what they do. My son just went through basic training and between him and all the other men they composed a video of their basic training. It's really cool. They even got video of the weapons they were learning to shoot.

OK Space Marine, there are hired camera crews that follow certain events during basic training, sometimes you're lucky enough to be in the shot that they're taking.

there are professionals who video tape everything. Copies are available to purchase after graduation. We have a copy of my Husband's Pass in Review from 13 years ago.

The recruits themselves are NOT doing the taping/picture taking.

I seriously doubt they are doing this in basic. If they are and they get caught, look out.LMAO!They are not allowed to have personal phones and stuff like that in basic. It's all confiscated when they arrived.I think they can get a video showing different parts of their training from the base though.
