nobody can tell you if it'll hurt you too much. i don't have wings on my back but i do have my whole back tattooed. it all hurt but it wasn't the worst in the world. really the spine is the worst in my opinion and most wings don't get tattooed on the spine. wings do take some commitment of time and money because you'll have to have them done over quite a few sessions. in my opinion three hour tattoo sessions are perfect, they're long enough to get a lot done but not so long that it causes unbearable pain. the longer your session the more it hurts (i think)
good luck, be sure to get a talented artist to do your tattoo... it would suck to have a back full of mediocre wings. not all tattooers are talented.

While any tatoo hurts a bit - for something that large you will probably have to go back for a few days - they will most likely work on it for a few hours - have you come back the next day and the day after. They will do it in steps - first the out line then filler and any detail needed. They will end up going over the same spot a few times and once the spot is gone over multipul times it does tend to hurt more. Also based on experience anywhere you have more fat than others (and no that is not a rude comment at all, we all have alittle fat) like possibly "little love handles" or something, anyway where ever you have a little extra fat - it does hurt more, so just be careful of that. Just know getting a large tat like that on a large area will be time consuming, painful and costly not to mention permanent, so just make sure you really want it, and are willing to go thru all the time and effort to complete it. you'll be fine... i'm on my 4th tat.. nothing near that large - but definetly worth the little pain they caused :) good luck!

Back tattoos tend to be more painful than other tattoos, this being because of the spine. BUT keep in mind that pain thresholds vary from person to person. One person could be in a lot of pain, while others don't feel much at all.
My boyfriend has his back completely done with a cross in the center and angel wing on one side, and a demon wing on the other, and I barely saw him flinch. I however have a shoulder blade and lower back tattoo and the shoulder blade was virtually painless, while the lower back tattoo was a little bit uncomfortable. Suck it up, don't worry too much, sit back (or forward) and relax! Once it's done you'll have a beautiful tattoo to love and enjoy!
Happy inking!

Can't really see your picture because it's small...well, avatar sized..
But I have wings taking up pretty much all my back and some spots definately hurt more than others. It's been awhile, but up by my shoulderblades hurt the worst. It is quite painful, but not my worst (or least) painful..it's tolerable. If you find it being too painful in one session you can have it done over a couple of sessions. I had mine done over 5 sessions. First was outline, next 3 were the colors - black, dark red, light red, white, and a year later I decided I wanted to get them lengthened so I got that done in one sitting. I'm having the feeling I will be getting them so they take up more of my back in the next few months or so.
If you would like to get more detailed info,or have specific questions feel free to email me (trishanelson2005@yahoo.com).

I'm getting a heart with wings breaking out of it on my chest this Friday. Its gonna be pretty colorful, and is a 7 hour session. Mine is 600. So I'm assuming yours will be 400 to 600. They're expensive!

I've got wings, but mine are SUPER small compared to yours. I've got 2 tattoos on my back. I thought they both were fairly painful, the lower back was the worst for me... but your tattoo shouldn't be going near that so you should be fine.
Just bring someone to keep you distracted! Good luck! I always thought full back wings looked awesome.

Do it, it shouldn't hurt that bad. Besides, it looks good but Djibril Cisse from the French soccer club Olympique du Marseille has sweeter looking wings.
