Well actually the number of the beast refers to a ruler of sorts. The Pope's hat has the words " VICARIUS FILII DEI" Which is latin for "Vicar of the son of God. If you tally up the roman numerals in that name, it adds up to 666.
V=5
I=1
C= 100
A= 0
R= 0
I= 1
U= 5
S= 0
F= 0
I= 1
L= 50
I= 1
I= 1
D= 500
E= 0
I= 1
-----------------
Total 666

In Greek, Hebrew and Latin, it comes out the same. Many of the protestant churches knew this and many believe that the catholic church (not catholic people) was/is the anti-christ.

So, knowing this and also knowing the catholic religion is one of the richest in the world, I would have to say money most likely is part of it. Many of the sins committed in the name of God have been done because of money. The Catholic religion used to make people pay Money for the forgiveness of sins.( Martin Luther broke away from the church because of this practice) Still to this day, certain amounts of money needs to be paid in order to light candles for loved ones or special masses to be said for their dead. So, Yes... I believe money has something to do with the end times beast.

The love for money is the consequence of common practical comprehension for and of its purpose. The number assigned for the mark for 'the beast' is a code name for a cold hearted idiot judge.

The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

Additional: hmmm, I like the Solomon angle; I've never heard of that one before. It sort of implicates King Solomon, does it not. Solomon converted into the French and Latin language reads 'only one' or 'only move in', like a bum or middle aged kid like me. Apparently he had 300 women as concubines, from which I infer he was a self aggrandized sex addict.

The Book of Revelation

two thirds way down: ' Irenaeus, in the second century, knew still that by the head which was wounded and healed, the Emperor Nero was meant. He had been the first great persecutor of the Christians. At his death a rumour spread, especially through Achaia and Asia, that he was not dead, but only wounded, and that he would one day reappear and spread terror throughout the world (Tacitus, Ann. VI, 22). At the same time Irenaeus knew another very old reading, which made the number of the name 616, instead of 666.

In chapter XII, the beast with the seven heads appears again, this time mounted by the well-known scarlet lady, the elegant description of whom the reader may look out in the book itself. Here an angel explains to John: .....'

and

'About 300 years before our era the Jews began to use their letters as symbols for numbers. The speculative Rabbis saw in this a new method for mystic interpretation or cabbala. Secret words were expressed by the figure produced by the addition of the numerical values of the letters contained in them. This new science they called gematriah, geometry. Now this science is applied here by our “John.” We have to prove (1) that the number contains the name of a man, and that man is Nero; and (2) that the solution given holds good for the reading 666 as well as for the equally old reading 616. We take Hebrew letters and their values —

ב (nun) n= 50 ק (keph) k = 100
ר (resh) r = 200 פ (samech) s= 60
ן (van) for o = 6 ר (resh) r = 200
×  (nun) n= 50

Neron Kesar, the Emperor Neron, Greek Nêron Kaisar. Now, if instead of the Greek spelling, we transfer the Latin Nero Caesar into Hebrew characters, the nun at the end of Neron disappears, and with it the value of fifty. That brings us to the other old reading of 616, and thus the proof is as perfect as can be desired. [The above spelling of the name, both with and without the second nun, is the one which occurs in the Talmud, and is therefore authentic.]'

The bible also indicates that the love of money is the root of all evil.
Money is power and power corrupts those who use their wealth to gain more power in order to promote their plans regardless of the consequences on people and the planet.
Just take a good look at what is going on in our days. Wealthy people buy political influence – these people that we vote and give them the power to rule our lives – thru which legislation and state laws are formulated in accordance to their plans for more power and wealth.
Our lives and the welfare of the planet are of lesser importance compared to their profiteering plans.
However there is one major factor that we all seem to disregard…death cannot be paid-off and material assets are non transferable.

So King Solomon received the mark of the beast centuries before it was even prophesied?

I wouldn't say they are the same. However, since nothing is in the Bible by accident, it would suggest that God disapproved of Solomon's activity in procuring the 666 talents of gold.

You pose an intresting question when you put it that way. I know that the Love of money is a sin. So maybe this is one of the symbolic things that we have to discover to find out.

Man. That is a reach. The Holy Bible is not a parlour game, or a sorcerer's book. It is serious advice about how to live our lives, and how to consider eternity. Your question trivializes what the Bible is supposed to do.

Pretty soon there will be one universal type of money and if you love money more than you love Jesus.You will take this money and the mark of the beast to buy and sell.
