My cousin got married at the NY Renaissance Faire two years ago, and it was AMAZING! It was so laid-back, yet elegant at the same time. Theres nothing quite like having a huge turkey leg in one hand and a goblet of mead in the other..and all while wearing a medieval gown/corset. All of the actors performed for us, too. I really wished that my husband and I could've afforded to do this for OUR wedding..but at the time we tied the knot this option was far too expensive. If you ever get the chance to go to a wedding like this, DO GO!! You'll have a blast!

They've all been OK, none that really stand out to say "man that was awesome lets go back again!". I do reception design so i think I've gotten a little jaded.

The best ones are when the couple are relaxed and happy. No bride freaking out because there were 10 roses instead of 12 in the centerpieces or the groom having a cow because the bartender forgot to put the twist in his gin and tonic. Nobody remembers these little errors but they are sure as hell going to remember if you throw a hissy fit.

Plan like it's a party! Nothing is worst than a big super-formal wedding where the couple is more worried about keeping up with their neighbors and having a good dog and pony show instead of making it a fun, comfortable environment for everybody.

Other than that guests are simple. we don't care if you have peach linens or cream, what the flowers are, or notice that you hand-stamped each escort card with a custom design. Food, drink, music.

Other than my own, my best friend's, which I was maid of honor for. It was in a church, but the reception was in the party hall upstairs in a firehouse. It was better than the country club weddings. More laid-back and casual. People could be themselves.

It was nice, not tacky at all, like some people say firehouse receptions are. The groom and his mother cooked all the food.

And as a bonus, that marriage has lasted 17 years so far, the last country club wedding I was a guest at, lasted about 3 !

Two come to mind.

One in NYC on a ver exclusive venue in Manhattan, The view was amazing (the venue was on the top floor). There was an open br and a fantastic hor's d'ouvres and white gloved waiters. The meal consisted of seven courses (plated) and 3 different choices of dessert. I couldn't eat everything even if I tried, The favors were great too, mini- bottles of champagne and personalized candy bars and boxes of petit-fours. Beautiful white flowers everywhere.

The other one was in Boston last August. The rehearsal dinner was a clam bake on a very exclusive marina. The ceremony had a string quartet. The wedding party travelled on a costumized trolley that they chartered from Boston and brought it all the way down to Beverly!!!! The reception had 8 differnt choices of hors d'ouvres, a raw bar with giant oysters, jumbo shrimp and clams, crab cakes, lamb, chicken, mushrooms and scallops, open bar and the quartet playing during the cocktail hour. The reception was on a sea-shore venue, it was beatiful. The plated meal (3 choices), open bar with 6 different beers, 3 choices of wine and two choices of champagne, and a 6 person band!!!!! The party didn't end ther, at the after party, they had a bartended at their faboulous mansion offering fine liquors and a catered light refreshments and a waiters serving them. They had a poclice security detal there too and valet parking!!!! They had panninis, mini-subs, chocolate covered strawberries. etc. the nesx day they had a sunday brunch, but I was too full to go LOL!

Good luck

My (now) aunt and uncle got married by a lake. They rented a picnic pavilion for about 50 people. There were about 40 there and they had a justice of the peace come out and marry them and a friend played the guitar. (Now that wouldn't happen since in this state a justice of the peace can't legally marry outside of office hours and outside the courthouse. Clergy still can though) They asked that everyone bring something to eat and we had a picnic reception and then went swimming. It was a casual wedding but you could tell how much they loved each other. It was great.

We were in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. Heard drums beating and looked up the beach. Six men in tropical Maori costume were walking along the edge of the lagoon carrying an outrigger canoe with the bride in it. The drummers were walking behind. At the end of the beach they lifted her out to stand beside the groom. After the ceremony they brought in a horse for the pictures. The bride was on the horse at the edge of the lagoon and the groom stood beside her. It was absolutely beautiful.

Haha, the first thing I thought was my own. Of course I had a blast there.

The best one I have been to other than that was a really laid back wedding. They had the ceremony in the church and then dinner in the church hall. After that we all went and changed into our comfy clothes and went out to his parents' house for the reception. They had a huge bon fire, tons of apps, drinks, volleyball, games. It was just nice and complimented the bride and groom so well.

My sister-in-law got married in Calif at Wayfarer's Chapel. It's made of glass and redwood and looks right out over the ocean. it was beautiful. She kept decorations to a minimum because with the beautiful setting, she really didnt need much else.
