If you're thinking about college. then a degree in Teaching would be good.. because then you'd be home when your kids our home.
Otherwise.. for tech school. maybe a dental assistant.. it's Monday thru Friday and office hours..
or you could do preschool.

Well, it sounds like you won't have your kids in the nest much longer, so you'll have more free time. Choose something that you love -- that's the most important thing. If it's art of some sort, you can often set up your own schedule.
Part-time jobs with the government are often very good -- you might work from 10 to 4, get home not much later than your kids, and be building up your resume for when they leave home. Being part of the government already, you'll also have the inside line about jobs (full-time, etc.). Also, the government may help subsidize your education.
I worked as a film librarian for a State Government, and didn't need much in the way of qualifications -- just typing. Be sure you have good keyboarding skills -- that will help you in just about any job.
Another thing you might look into is nursing. You've kind of been doing that all along. Also, teaching could be another possibility, if you like kids (and with four, I bet you do!).
Good luck! Oh, and try taking some aptitude tests to give yourself some good ideas.

why not have your own small business instead of looking for a work?
i am a working mom of two, and i am separated with their dad for about a year now.
for a while i've been a stay home mom too and that made me so paranoid with my husband's activities. that's why i decided to find a job.
now i'm working on a call center company, one of the top in the world, the salary and benefits are good but the fact that i cannot attend important events with my children makes my heart break.
you may start with your own business instead, there are organizations that teaches how to have our own small business, like soap, perfume, lip balm, lotion and even essential oils making. in just a little amount to buy raw or by the bulk, you can create a nd repack.
there are also simple small businesses like meat processing or having a computer shop if you have a better amount to invest.
you just have to think it over first, it's still better if you'll be the boss of your own business rather than being the employee of your boss.
but first, if you really want to go back to college, the better. just need a little more time to manage everything back. because you do not want to have a lesser time with your kids.
i hope i give the best advice.
=)

I am a single working mom and my son is 12. I have an Accounting Degree but I wish I had taken up teaching. My timings would have been perfect and I would have been at home around the same time as my boy. Not to mention all the great benefits the city has to offer to its employees.

An internet job. would be good for now. so you could work as well as be there when your kids need you. But if you do go out and work, Dont feel guilty about it. We all went thru this and its normal to feel guilty, But soon your kids and you will get used to the idea of you leaving them and going out to work. But it will take time. All the best. Slow and steady !!!

Of course, homebased career is best for working mothers. In our place, having a beauty parlor at home is a trend.
