My friend got an ELS discharge (during basic training) and is going into the holding on Tuesday. How long will his outprocessing take? His unit graduated almost 2 weeks ago and he's been waiting for his papers to go into the holding for his outprocessing. They told him it would take a few days but really can you believe them? He is going into the holding on Tuesday to start his outprocessing. Thanks!

it really depends upon why he is being discharged.... but they will get him home as soon as they can. They are not going to keep him there just because they feel like it.

He'll prob be home sometime this week

Like the others said, most of it depends upon the reason for separation. I worked the separations office of the Navy's boot camp for a while and there is a lot of paperwork that has to be generated by legal and medical before it even gets to the office that actually processes the discharge/separation. But once everything is gathered and gets to the "Seps" desk, it is not supposed to take more than 10 working days by instruction.
