Today when i tried to microwave a frozen hotpocket, it made a weird noise like electricity zapping and smoke would come out of the vent. Its a brand new microwave. This also happened when I tried to microwave wax.

Don't use it. If the light, fan and turn-table still operate normally, it is probably a short in/around the magnetron. It can be replaced fairly simply, however if your machine is still under warranty, take it back. If not, you can attempt doing the replacement yourself, or find and electronics professional to do it... if there were sparks you may need to replace some wiring as well.

I have to agree that sounds like a possible defect - take it back to the store. It sounds like it is doing something called "arking" which means there is an electrical problem somewhere and it could be dangerous.

I am curious, though - why are you nuking wax?

You can't Microwave certain things, like aluminum foil, steel, forks, spoons, ect.. those you mentioned are probably included, read the manual it came with. only use paper or plastic, or plates with none of the above.

were you microwaving something metal???? Check with your manufacturer to make sure its not defective and make sure you haven't included some non-microwavable stuff!

The magnetron is bad. Take it back before it gets any worse.

There is definitely something very wrong with it. If it is new take it back. My micro did that---and then it caught on fire.
