hey guys!

my boyfriend had been saving up for my school formal + a trip overseas when last week, his dad had taken half his funds and gambled it (his account is still joined with his parents!)

he's having a really horrible time at home with family fighting all the time and i really feel like i cannot help him! i know i can't interfere but sometimes i just want to be there to make him smile or keep his mind off things, but im the kind of person who likes to talk about things to make sure it isnt bothering the other person and i dont like diverting because some times people dont want you to ignore the problem (even though they act like it!)

any suggestions guys? we've been together for a year now and things have been great, i just feel like i can't help him out in the worst of times, when he can certtainly make me feel better!

Is he 18 or older?

Open his own bank account.

Not much you can do, (unless specifically asked), be available to listen, just being understanding will help tremendously!

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES GET BETWEEN HIM AND ANY FAMILY MEMBER!!!! (no matter how wrong they may be)

Luck

He needs to get a separate account from his parents. Perhaps, if he is not of age, a trusted family member can sign with him.

It is horrible when a parent takes advantage of a child like that, but maybe his dad has gambling problems. There is a gambling help line for that. 1 (888) 347-8888 Hopefully he and his mother can talk the dad into getting help.

In the meantime, just try to be understanding.

It is of no use to get the money back from his father. He cannnot have the money back. You cannot help him either. as it is not your job at this stage. It is better that he should take it for granted and you should also give him advice for patience. There appears no other alterntive.

let him know you are there for him. offer for him to come around to your place as relief from his house. take him out somewhere to distract him.

good luck.

Be there for him

Tell him you're just happy to have him.
