they be? For example, i took pictures of the moon and without thinking, I thought they were ok, but I realized the moon was blue!....I had forgot to reset the White Balance from previous use. Luckily, the moon was still around for me to use Auto White Balance, and took more normal looking pictures of the moon. More accurate color, but blue moon is still fine looking.

Here is my checklist I use. And it is absolutely vital to use the checklist EVERY TIME you use the camera. The times I haven't bothered thinking everything was ok I regretted it big time.

*White Balance.
*Mode (Aperture Priority, Program Mode, etc)
*ISO
*Focus (manual, auto)
*Quality (RAW, JPG, etc)
*Metering (spot, center weighted, matrix/average, etc)
*Image Optimization (saturation, colour mode, contrast, etc, etc)

And if you're using a speedlight:
*Flash mode

Before releasing the shutter you should look all around the viewfinder or screen. Check for any extraneous objects that might detract from your image. Litter. Trees or poles "growing" out of someones head. Powerlines "running" through someones head. Horizon horizontal. Vertical elements vertical.

i cant really help with "taking photos"

as for "making images" - assume you are talking digi

check memory cards, check batteries, set up the image/scene, set white balance, choose composition, read the light, set the exposure, set up the pod, set focus, then "take the photo"

Well, you should check your focus, then your lens opening, then your shutter speed, then the lighting, then your composition.
