The fact that you are asking this question means that you have already thought seriously about getting another dog for the right reasons. Don't let what other people think stop you from getting another dog if that is what you want to do. People often underestimate how much animals grieve and if you can get a companion for your dog then that is a good thing to consider.
I waited a few months after I had to have my dog put to sleep for health problems before getting another puppy - but that was because I wanted to make sure that I got a puppy that would fit well in a household with children, cats, and another dog.
If you feel that you would like another dog then start looking. You will find the right dog for you and you will know that it is the right one for you when you find it. If your other dog is older than around 4 years of age you may want to consider adopting an adult dog from a shelter though - it gives your dog a companion rather than an anoying puppy, and it means that you will have a better idea of the adult dog that you will end up with.
I am sorry that you have lost a special companion, and while a new dog will never be able to replace the dog that has passed, I am sure that he or she will make themselves a new place in your heart.
Good luck with your search for a new companion and just worry about what is right for you and your existing dog.

it is in no way disrespectful to your dogs memory... you will probably always miss your dog that died, but that doesnt mean that getting another dog to keep you company will really replace the other... its like making new friends, you never simply forget the old ones...but its not wrong to make new ones...
plus this way your other dog thats still alive wont get lonely when you cant be with it, you will have 2 dogs like you are used to and youll be giving a dog a home...
so dont feel as if you are doing something wrong... i think it is a good idea to get another dog...have fun if you do decide to adopt one and im sorry for your loss.

No, it is not disrespectful and noone else will think it is either. You are honoring your dog everyday that you think about him and share his memories with other people. You're honoring your dog right now by telling us how much you loved him. Adopting another dog into your life shows how much you care about dogs and want them to have a good life that also honors your dog's memory.

Does it really matter what other people think? I feel the way you do when I lose a dog, I miss having that second set of four legs around and usually get another almost immediately. It took 3 weeks for me to get another pup when my old dog was euthanised, she was old and sick and I loved her, I never felt that I replaced her. Good luck.

It is a good thing to get another dog! Not only will it help your other dog avoid depression, but caring for a new dog will help you get through your grief. Anytime you are grieving from the loss of a pet, parent, friend, a loving puppy can love you so much and unconditionally that they just step right in and start to help your broken heart mend.
Go for it!

Truth be told, no.
I am a dog lover through and through and if all my dogs croaked today, I would have to go on a search for another. Some people just have an empty void in their hearts and can not go on without a little fur buddy in their lives to share it with.
I say it is not disrespectful.

I started the adoption process 3 days after my dog died because I was lonely and I found another perfect dog for me who was waiting for me to come and get her. I have never been sorry and everyone says the same thing,"she is beautiful".

not at all. some people take a long time to want another dog some are ready right away.
you and your dog are ready now, so find one that fits & give it a loving home. I would suggest one around the same age as the one you have now.

I don't think it's disrespectful at all. It's very honorable for you to want to adopt a dog and perhaps save it's life in the process, and your other dog will probably be thrilled to have a companion.I say go for it!
