It can be caused by being overweight, hormonal changes or even things like diabetes. If it's a new development, I'd talk to your doctor about it. They can recommend the best course of action.
I have a very fair complected friend who was heavy and had dark skin under her arms and on her neck. She's lost over 100 pounds and her armpits and neck have gone back to normal.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but am writing in here anyway because my b/f has the same problem - on and off, and we have no clue what it could be. Never knew of anyone else who has has such a problem. I guess I'm curious if it is the same thing. His gets actually more like a dark reddish color and it hurts and itches him. But it's not an allergy like to deodorant like we had thought. It seems to come and go at random.....
Guess when I saw your question, I was hoping to find an answer myself.

Some skin dyes work but most likely laser treament will work best in the long term.

Its natural, dun worry.
Apply lemon juice with baking soda,leave for 10 to 15mins b4 washing it off.
It does wonders for dark underholes!! Do give it a try!!
