Most Christians DON'T secretly think you athiests believe in God. We know you do not.

I have never thought that you did, I sadly know you are mistaken but will not argue it here because atheists will continue to think we are delusional and we will continue to pray for you. No harm in that right?

However (and I'm not pasting scripture) but one day every tongue WILL confess....so, when that day comes...I'll just be happy to be entering into the kingdom of heaven while you....well...you will not! Your choice...free will and all that!

P.S. My husband was a strong atheist for years! Fortunately he is proof that even an atheist can get lucky and find God. He is a strong, true Christian man and is happy to know the truth...which has truly set him free! Therefore, there is hope for some atheists!

I see weird theories all the time, and this is another one I haven't heard of. I don't think atheists secretly believe in God, because if you say you are an atheist, then you are saying you don't believe in God. It's simple as that.

I think you must have run across a few people that were just trying to convince you in their own very odd way to believe in God. Remember that Christianity encompasses a very broad group of people that all really have just one thing in common. Even most of us don't agree on the same issues.

I can't say for sure what you do or don't believe. I would like to take you at yor word although I wonder sometimes if they were accused of believing in the sky fairy would they even bother to respond or spend so much time in a website trying to convince others that the sky fairy doesn't exist. In my mind at least this seems to show even you make a distinction between God and a sky fairy.

First of all, please don't take my answer as being "snotty" because it's so hard to show which emotion is being used in typing. I'm really calm when I'm typing this, and just trying to give you an honest answer to your question.

I'd like to rephrase what you wrote and that might give you an answer: "Why do some, or most Christians HOPE we secretly believe in God..." That's the key word...hope.

I believe what I believe, and I'm not going to tell you you're going to hell or any of that. I think I'm past that stage (wow - I'm growing up on R&S - what a concept!). I can only answer for myself, although I'm Christian, I'm still an individual. Jesus said (and I'm really paraphrasing here!) "Put it out there - if they believe, then great. If they don't, then don't spend all kinds of time trying to convince them. You're wasting time that could be spent on others that might have an open heart."

No offense intended toward you, really. I'm just trying to give you an honest answer to an honest question.

Christians think we secretly believe in god because they can't (or don't want to) think outside the box and consider the possibility that their beliefs are invalid or not true. For them, there is no other world other than a world with the "sky fairy". They've been so brainwashed from years of conditioning and they spend so much time convincing themselves, that there's no other option. They believe in god, so everyone should and it must be true.

You're generalizing about what every Christian and every atheist believes. Besides, not every atheist believes of your "fabrication." They simply believe that there is no God(s).
It's not a question framed without some predetermined ideas about what masses of people believe- could maybe be called a prejudice?

That is a rediculous statement. Even if some right wing fruit cakes believe that, that view is hardly shared by all or even most christians. I certainly don't believe that.

What does irritate the crap out of me however is how atheists constantly talk about what "christians" are like as if we were some amalgamous, monolythic enterprise with no variation at all. The truth is that Christianity is a wildly diverse belief system with adherents from every political persuation from right-wing Nazis to left wing tree huggers and everything in between.

To try and generalize "christian" behavior is just as rediculous as trying to talk about "black" behavior, and easily just as intollerant and bigotted as well.

The reason there are christians, that they are believers of Christ and to God.

The reason why they are atheist is that they don't bother much to believe in God than to see is to believe. Until time comes Christ returns to make them believed what is the truth.

That would be on the last days in the second coming of Christ. Blessed are those who do'nt see God and yet they believed, compare also in the olden days they see God but yet they don't believed.

For me I rather believed in God than not to believe it. You had nothing to loss but a life everafter.

God Bless you all.

Narrow perspective. Perspective obviously has a lot to do with how much reality you experience (or LET yourself experience).

Interestingly, insanity is often described as a loss of connection with reality. Certain types of insanity occur when a person believes that everything they perceive has some sort of personal relevance. IOW, it may go so far as seeing the sun come up and believing that you did it, or that it was done for your sake. There are varying degrees of this. I think Christianity is on the lower end of this sort of insanity.

I think this may possibly explain why they can't possibly fathom the idea of a person actually NOT believing in their God.
