yes, many tree and vines are grown from cuttings of the original plant - cuttings are very common. This technique of propogating plants has been around for thousands of years.

We've been eating "cloned" fruit all our lives.

Not entirely, but most of the products are genetically altered; take for example tomatoes -- some of which have had a certain gene found in fish added to it that aids in creating a protective shell (so to speak) on the outside of the tomato so they could be transported in water, thusly, when we get them in the grocery store they have no bruises on the outside. Who knows what we're eating anymore!
