Many say we came via evolution. the BIG BANG or from other GODS.
NO ONE really knows 100% sure other than what you believe in your heart.
SO if you are confused and unsure rather than asking here where you will get many zealouts answering theirs is the only way, I may suggest seeing you are open and not decided that you take the time and study and truly learn as much as you can about as many faiths as you can. Look up religion on the internet and see how many faiths you can find and research them. Once you do that and really learn about them i am sure you will find one that makes sense to you.
Good luck on your journey.

Most believed in the big bang theory, that was started by something small and compressed. I am a Christian and I believe that God could have used this way to create the world as it seems to follow what is said in the old testament. However, I find it hard to believe that it happened on it's own. It seems much more likely that the one thing existing before time was a supreme being than compressed matter.

Ah, wouldn't we all love to know that!
Truth is, nobody has the answer, and we may never have it. But just because something is currently unattainable via science does not mean that one should automatically look to the supernatural. The awesome part about science is that you can say "I don't know, let's find out."
Evolution, as others have said, is not a sufficient answer to how we got here. That takes us back to the primordial soup, which we can presumably trace to the big bang. But what before that?
As for purpose, that's largely a philosophical matter, and no one is going to reach a consensus on that one. My personal belief is that there is no ultimate purpose, though we should try to learn as much as possible and help out other people.

Here we find a critical difference between the Bible’s view of humanity and atheistic evolution’s view.
God’s Word stresses that humans hold a special place in creation; evolution suggests that humans are the accidental product of blind natural processes.
The Bible explains that humans are made in the image of a just and loving God and are able to live moral and good lives; evolution, with its emphasis on the struggle to survive, is at a loss to explain the human qualities of love and altruism.
Evolution cannot offer any real hope or purpose. The Bible offers the Creator’s grand purpose for our future. He has clearly declared his intent: “I will bless you with a future filled with hope.”—Jeremiah 29:11, Contemporary English Version.
A wise psalmist was moved humbly to admit: “Know that Jehovah is God. It is he that has made us, and not we ourselves.” (Psalm 100:3) To many reasoning minds, this modest acknowledgment makes infinitely more sense than modern theories about human life arising as a result of chance.

Good Point.
God is the name we have given to that which we don't understand - namely - how we and everything else came to be.
We know that we like being alive (if we are honest about it). We know there are lots of great things about being and life and we know that it all came from somewhere or someone - and since there are all these good things and such amazing creations it is good logic to think what it came from is intelligent and good.
So, while there is a lot more to it - there you have it in a nutshell. God is good and you don't have to be confused - instead try to be good and intelligent too! That should keep you busy.
It is actually not that complicated to understand. People have a tendency to make it complicated because they prefer to fool around rather than take the bull by the horns and choose right over wrong.
If you make it seem all complicated and sophisticated and confusing you can fool yourself into thinking you have an excuse for doing selfish things. In the end when we do these things it is really only ourselves we are fooling. Which really is pretty stupid, don't you think.?
================================
our purpose:
Treat others as you would have them treat you.
As taught by the seven basic religions on our planet:
Brahmanism: This is the sum of duty: do naught unto others which would cause you pain if done to you. (Mahabharata 5:1517)
Buddhism: Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful (Udana-Varga 5:18)
Confucianism: Surely it is the maxim of loving kindness: Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you. (Analects 15:23)
Taoism: Regard your neighbor's gain as your own gain and your neighbor's loss as your own loss. (T'ai shang Kan Ying P'ien)
Zoroastrianism: That nature alone is good which refrains from doing unto another whatsoever is not good for itself. (Dadistan-I-dinik 94:5)
Judaism: What is hateful to you, do not to your fellowman. That is the entire law; all the rest is commentary. (Talmud, shabbat 31a)
Christianity: All things whatsoever ye would that man should do to you, do ye even so to them; for this is the Law and the prophets. (Matthew 7:12)
Islam: No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself. (Sunnah).

How did we get here? By 'we' are you talking about the universe, life, or Man? The stories are only slightly related - even though creationists are fond of lumping them all together as 'evolution'.
In order, the best current theories are the Brane Theory/Big Bang, Abiogenesis and evolution respectively. Look 'em all up, and be wise.
CD
Edit: Damn - forgot the last Q: we have no purpose, anymore than other natural phenomena like snowflakes and asteroids.

Truth isn't made or broken based on whether people believe in it or not...it just plain is. Just because our schools have brainwashed millions into thinking that they came from single-celled organisms spontaneously being produced around underwater volcanoes (or whatever the current "theory" is), it doesn't negate who God is.
But aside from the creation/evolution debate (which I only mention because you asked about God being the creator), I really encourage you to just sit down and read. Start with the New Testament, and just read. Talk to God (that's all prayer is, talking to Him) and decide for yourself if His Word is truth. Just take it from there. Ask Him if it's true :-)

Some people on here are saying we evolved from dirt or something, but honestly, that makes no sense and it's just dumb. And most of all, if you really beleive we were, then where did that dirt come from? Where did everything come from? GOD. And god isn't a thing, he's love. And he's always been around

Right now...
Science is trying to answer the first part of your question...
The "purpose" will probably forever be a mystery...
(Since there probably isn't one...)
That's why you have to create your own "purpose..."
If you feel like you absolutely have to "have" one...
Me?!? I came from nothing, and will return to it (hopefully at least 40 years in the future) so...
It's a free ride...and I'm just gonna enjoy it while it lasts...

First let me ask. Why must we have a purpose. You just feel a need to have a purpose but in reality our existence is just coincidence and chance. We live we die we evolve we become extinct. No purpose just coincidence. We could just have well never have existed and the universe never would have known the difference. You have to decide your own reason for existing.
