Is life really irrelevant? Living is all there is, then there is death. No one knows what happens after death, for certain that is. Many people get through life without the slightest care or bother, and wind up on their death beds not regretting a thing. I go to school everyday, I see a beautiful girl, I am too afraid to approach her, I get home and regret it. Life is short, but is it meaningless? To be honest, I am scared of death, and what is after it. I need a purpose. I need to believe in something, I need hope that something is out there. I can't stand going through life fearing death as an endless pit of darkness. Does anyone know where I can find relief from this fear, or is it possible at all? Are we really alone, lucky to even be "blown" into existence, in this endless vacuum of space? Or is there something more to rely on, something that is actually watching us and cares about our existence? Please help.

I find myself contemplating many of the same questions you are sharing tonight. Are we really alone? Is the point of all this to struggle and struggle...then die?

It is for these and other reasons that millions seek a spiritual connection to something higher than ourselves. Many of us find that, without a fulfilling spiritual life, we feel lost, anxious, and confused.

I am a Christian. I have not always been one. I am not about to tell you to run down to your local church right now. I will say that becoming a Christian has helped me in so many ways. I am a more peaceful, patient, loving person now. I realize that life is filled with wonderful times and times of extreme struggle. I have also realized that a God who loves me is there with me to experience them all.

I wish you the very best. I hope that you will find our path. God's peace be with you.

Only a person that doesn't care about where and how they spend eternal life, feels it's irrelevant. If a person believes there is no such thing as eternal life they have NOTHING TO LOOSE AND NOTHING TO GAIN. You live, you die, end of story. They tell themselves this, but they don't want to actually consider things and face the truth. It's easier to believe in nothing and do nothing than it is to try. It's the easy way out, but it's the wrong way. If there IS such a thing as eternal life those that REJECT this notion and reject God would have EVERYTHING TO LOOSE AND GAIN NOTHING. Baised on that alone means that the only way to GAIN anything is by believing--believing that God is real and that therre IS eternal life. So why chance it? But, the above is a secondary reason. The person that doesn't believe may have no regets while still alive and on their death bed. It's sthe second they close their eyes in death that they have their regrets. As a Christian, I don't fear death, and I suppose that most Christians feel that way. It's because at death in this life that I will open my eyes to eternal life in all the bliss of Heaven. I will never attempt to take my own life and I'm not saying that I want to die just yet-but I don't fear death either. Jesus overcame death and arose to Heaven. Jesus has accomplished this so we will do the same thing. Life was not created to be meaningless. You DO have some sort of talent/s. What are they? Find them and put them to use. Use them for your own good and the good of others. Are you pretty good at: sports, math, english, art, landscaping, reading, writting, business, computers??? These are just a few areas. What do you excell in and/or want to excell in? Go for it! Go get it! Be your own best friend and do yourself some good. You don't know what the outcome will be with a girl untill you try. If you fail, just look at it like you're one step closer to succeeding. It's her loss, not yours. Count your blessings. You DO have things like eyesight, a home, food to eat, a school to go to, friends, a computer, clothing and much much, more. There are MANY people that don't have these things. Give God thanks that you do have them. It is also a good idea to GET INVOLVED. Get your mind off of yourself and on someone that could use you, use a helping hand. You could help out at a place like a Goodwill store, food pantry, "meals on wheels", help an older person do things around their home, do some volunteer work. Relief from your fear can also come from reading the Bible and/or other Christian material. Join a Bible study group. Talk to a major denomination minister and ask him/her about what you have on your mind. I'm sure they will find time to talk to you and help you. Jesus is the answer to your questions. As I said at the start that that reason was secondary. Jesus, faith, Gods love for us, and forgiveness is the primary reason. Find out about Him and believe Him. God Bless You...

Assuming there is no afterlife and that death is non-existence, then death would NOT be "an endless pit of darkness" as you say. It will be simply not existing. you won't exist to know or care that you're dead or that you were ever alive. It will be identical to before you were born. Remember what that was like? No, you don't because you didn't exist. That's what death will be like. So maybe you can take comfort in that. because no matter how much you might regret about life, or how much you wish you could keep on living, the moment you die you will simply not exist and nothing will ever matter. (assuming death is non-existence)

Or, if you want to make yourself feel better, you can choose to "believe" in a religion. I say "believe" with the quotation marks because it's not really belief if don't truly think it's real. A lot of people convert to a religion because they like its teachings. But that's not belief. belief means you really think it's true.

Islam.

You ARE here for a purpose, and that purpose is to serve God. Your purpose in this life is to be a good and righteous person who is both God-fearing but hopeful about death. A muslim has a certain degree of fear and a certain degree of hope. One musn't be too arrogant and expecting of going to heaven. God is watching you. God is with you all the time. Everything in this life will be judged...even your hands and feet will be a witness to God. You won't just be in your grave lying there in the darkness. There is a definently an afterlife. By the time your in grave you will know where your going. This life is temporary. Atheists can deny it as much as they want but there IS a God and they know it. They can try to make up as many theories as they can. This life isn't meaningless and it isn't just about doing whatever you want. Throw a bunch of Atheists on a boat and sink the boat--I bet you each Atheist will scream for God's help!

Why are you scared of what is after death..!! Make the best of your life while you're here. Stop sweating the small stuff and enjoy! Stop being afraid, you can do that.

Endless pit of darkness you say! You won't know it, you'll be dead!

Yes, we are lucky to be here.. and I assume you have no disabilities that cause you to need medical attention or a wheelchair.. or whatever, you're very lucky, many face this life with devastating disabilities, and they keep going..and smiling too.

I'm an atheist, and yeah, to me it's over, when it's over, but I'm not going to waste time worrying about it.

Life is not that short...that's just a saying..

You know I used to think like that also.
I guess you have to find meaning within your own life to really look beyond the idea and fear of death.
Death is a cycle. A regular part of life, not to sound crass, but so is crapping. But I dont dwell on taking one.
I guess I understand to every cause there is an effect wating around the corner. When we die, there is another baby being born. And so on and so forth till the end of man. It makes me feel secure to know that.
Now the real question becomes why do you feel like life is irrelevant?
Mabye because you havent found a pupose quite yet.
I know mine. I teach. It makes me know that even when I am gone, I will be missed. hopefully my students, and in the future, my children, will have learned somthing valuable from me and carry that on through generaitions to come. And I will have fufilled my purpose in life. I will have left a legacy..

Now I have to disagree with your statment about when people die with no regreats. I dont beleave that to be true. I think when you die, you come to terms with the good decisions and the bad ones you have made in life. But when you think back, you know that even the bad decisions in life really defined who you became. The hardships, fallingouts and the trivial arguments really did have a reason.

And even death has reason. I know soooo many people that were inspired by someone close to them dying. I have a friend who went to medical school because she wanted to make her mom proud. Her mother passed away in 1999. Even if there is no god and no heaven, (which I dont agree with) she did somthing in her honnor. That is purpose and that is the beautiful cycle of life and death.

Live life. Be a decent person. You don't have to believe in a higher power to be a good person and leave your mark on the world. Since nothing has been proven that a higher power exists or doesn't exist, do you personally feel worshipping one will better your chances of an afterlife?

No its not irrelevent. Your life is very important to God, because he created it. He cares about you more than you can imagine. And he loves you like no one else.

I know exactly what happens after death, you either go to heaven or hell. Hell is that endless pit of darkness you speak of, except worse, it is an endless fire, burning whoever is in it, a never- ending place of loneliness and suffering. Now, you can either choose that, or heaven, a place with never ending glory and love. No suffering, no pain, no lonliness.

Now, I dont know about you, but I'd rather go to heaven. What do you choose? Eternal Life or eternal death? Love or hate? Jesus or the devil?

Please, PLEASE contact me so I can tell you more and answer your questions, Jesus is the answer you're looking for, I promise you...

I think that you know the answer to that. Jesus Christ (whether you believe in Him, or NOT) came to do just that. To set us free from fear, to give us eternal life, and not just eternal, but life here on earth. Abundant life, He said. That means a good life, a life full of energy, and purpose, of course purpose. He came to give everybody a plan for their life, to do something amazing on earth. Please understand that He is alive, very much alive and real, not some myth or even part of history which is gone. He is completely there for everyone who calls on His name and "receives" Him, in every way.

you are alive isnt that relevant enough, stop sitin around thinkin negative thoughts like that. you are alive now because you have a relevance. & remember this: when you see a girl you like you might as well talk to her now & learn from your mistakes if you fail, sh*t you never know who you could get & plus you most likely wont see her ever again anyway.

if you have a roof over your head a loving family & God thats enough to keep you going & find your purpose to exist. look at those people in other countries who would be dieing just to have one of those features. life is to short to sit around & not enjoy it. LIVE IT THE FUCKKKKK UP.lol
