In the USA freedom of religion is established under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Australia adopted Human Rights Laws that cover freedom of religion in 1980. See link below, or google

I see several people say constitution / bill of rights...

But that didn't go nearly far enough. Congress also past the RFRA (Religious Freedom Restoration Act)in 1993.

Unfortunately, Case Law established that this act only applied to the Federal Government. Fortunately, many states have responded to that court case by passing their own version of the RFRA.

In the U.S., the first amendment states that the government may not compel a religion or a religious belief. I don't know about other countries' laws.
