Darn, I am sorry for these navy guys, they are deluded. Sorry, dont mean to be rude here, but ya sound like recruiters... Everyone fights fires in the navy... Most of the "Professional firefighters" in the navy are actually damage control personnel, aka, welders, structural salvage and other fix the ship type things.. While I admire what they do, and I am astounded with what the field has accomplished, they are not the overall best FF in the military.

I have worked for the Navy as a Firefighter
I have worked for the Army as a Firefighter
I even worked for the National Science Foundation as a contract Firefighter.

With that said, I see the Navy as much better than the Army as a firefighter.

Army, Very few 51M (or whatever the new designation is), 99% are civilian firefighters
Navy - Again, mostly Damage Control Man, also most land based navy stations are civilian firefighters, If you want to be stuck on a ship in the middle of the ocean for 6+ months out of the year.. good luck..
Marine - Basicly like navy, but no shipboard firefighters, and again most USMC stations are civilan FD run.
Air Force, has the largest percentage of Military to Civilian Firefighters, Almost every airfield has at least one contingent of firefighters, this is so , if a group is deployed, military firefighters go with them. The base-wide firefighters are usually civilian.

Also, the Air Force RUNS the Department of Defense Fire School and because of that as the most number of seats available, also when you get out and want to be a civilian firefighter for the DoD, almost everyone likes air force firefighters because of the amount of training, The air force however, does not list most of their prime jobs to people that are not currently a AF Civilian, or prior AF military.
Also, I have been to dozens of bases around the country and by far, the best looking ones seem to be Air Force..
I am currently working for the army, and work in basicly a 1940 craphole. Underpowered, under lit, breakers tripping all the time, and this is pretty much standard for alot of army bases.

The Army has firefighters, but they may be civilian contracted so ask a recruiter about it! I am at thirteen years with OIF and OEF experience and I have loved every minute of it, even the sucky times, which there are some inevitably. I grew up knowing that I wanted to be a soldier and I joined right out of high school and never looked back, so yes, I think it's very worth it. If you want a physical challenge, try 18X, ( Special Forces recruit) 11B (Infantry) ,19D, 19K (Armor series). Or if you want a more technical challenge, try 74D (CBRNE Specialist, my MOS) or the 68 (medical series MOS) or the Signal Corps 25 series) or 96 series (intelligence series) 37 series (PSYOPS, CA) Civilian employers look favorably at military service (as long as it's honorable!) so go for it, and make sure you learn all you can while in Basic no matter which MOS you choose, all my friends have deployed at least twice, and you probably would too!
Also, all I wrote to you were just suggestions, I know someone out there who is a snob will try and give me **** for not mentioning all MOS's . The truth is, there are too many to list!

The Army does have Firefighters, MOS 21M, and they go to Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Goodfellow AFB, TX. In the city of San Angelo. The Fire Dawgs train alongside the Air Force Firefighters, both are top notch firefighting organizations. When I came in Firefighter was only an Army Reserve job, now it's in both Active and Reserves.

I believe the Navy has the best firefighting training in the military. You are on a ship, and a fire breaks out, who puts it out, the crew. Everyone goes through firefighting training in bootcamp. Now big red truck will come in save you in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Due your research, and talk to the recruiters

The Navy has a great firefighter program. Check out Crash/Fire Rescue as an MOS.

The Army Infantry will prepare you to be a "firefighter"!

I would suggest the Navy. All sailors are trained in fire fighting. There is a rate (damage controlman) that specializes in fire fighting. The rate is due to change in a few years, but fire fighting is still its main priority.
