I am a 16 year old boy, and Everyday, to me, life just feels like a dream. It has been happening so long now, that I can't even remember when it started, I think it started about 2 years ago. I am starting to get worried as it is getting worst and not going away. Any Ideas on what this might be? I have been reading up on psychosis, and I'm wondering if i might have a minor case of it, but I am still able to do good in school, keep relationships with my friends, and play sports. Any help is appreciated!

I went to my family doctor, and so far he just told me to take a blood test, i am still awaiting results. Also I used to smoke a marijuana cigarette 5 times a week, but that should be all out of my system (about 2 months ago)... but i thought i started feeling like i was dreaming before i even started with the marijuana.

consult your parents right away, this could be very serious, they could take you to the doctor and help you.

good luck

OK, there are a couple of things I want to say before giving an opinion about this...

(1) Don't be too sure of a self-diagnosis, especially if you are not well educated concerning mental disorders. To be blunt, Wikipedia is not a doctor.

(2) Nervousness can create the illusion that a situation is worse than it actually is.

That said, I don't think any random person can help you understand what's going on. I went through something similar for three years or so, age 13-16. I literally thought I was losing my mind. I felt like I couldn't think, couldn't comprehend anything beyond eating, sleeping, and worrying. I was and still am an introvert, and I never said a word to anything but my mother, who insisted that I was fine. I wasted those three years of my life basically pacing back and forth talking to myself and thinking about insane things, wishing I had super strength, obsessing about intelligence, etc. Then, rather suddenly, around late September, My mind was finally a little more clear. It never was quite the same as it used to be, but it was a step up from what I had been feeling like for the past three years.

Basically, you're not the only one who feels like you're going a little loopy at sixteen. If you really, honest-to-God don't think you can live like this anymore, you might talk to someone like your parents or a counselor (*shudder*) about it. I never got much out of it, but maybe you will. Other than that, all you can probably do is keep living and trying to find what's wrong in your own mind.

that's pretty interesting. maybe you're lucky - i know i really enjoy my dreams and never want to wake up. do you smoke a lot of m*? when i was around that age (24 now), I would vacillate between feeling normal and then going into a weird, dream-like state. I played varsity softball and had a lot of friends and sometimes I'd be out in the field and all of a sudden, I'd feel like I was in a dream. I thought it was a really cool feeling at the time, but I still sometimes freaked myself out thinking it was really abnormal. Do you have weird behaviors that deviate from the norm? I think in order to have psychosis, you really have to display some crazy behavior. If you were, your parents or your friends would start treating you differently and become more concerned.

It doesn't sound like psychosis to me. But I'm not a psych dr.

You could have a sleep disorder, or just be really tired.

You could be having a spiritual opening, and be in several realities at once. Take a look at "Spiritual Emergency" or spiritual emergence. Tehre's a site about it.

Check your diet. Are you eating lost of refined, adulterated foods? Any of that wierd stuff, like aspartame? Or lots of MSG in your chips and fast food? It can do that, really.

Do talk to someone with credentials, like a doctor or school counselor. And run it by your parents. Get LOTS of opinions about what it might be and discuss them all with a person who can understand.

Here's a line from the blogspot:
"You may find it difficult to know where you end and the external world begins."

And here's a page that answers some of your question.

Just keep yourself grounded...attached to the Earth.

everyone does. And life seems like a dream because you choose to not use certain parts of your mind that are afraid, traumatized - and therefore disattached. Dont worry, its just your minds way of coping. stop smoking weed if you are, weed increase incidence of psychosis by 40%, so if youre prone to being 'mental' then i suggest ya take a step back into reality and quit all drugs. not to say you smoke pot, but if ya do, then dont.

2 years ago, huh? Right around the time when you entered high school and started receiving multiple hours of homework every night? Sounds to me like you're just not getting enough sleep.

Well personally I have never heard of cases like that. Maybe you should ask your school psychologist about it. He/She will give you a proffesional opinion.
