The egg came first by millions of years. There were other animals laying eggs far before chickens ever evolved to hit the scene.
If you only believe that the earth is 5000 years old, though, you're probably not intelligent enough to ever find the answer to this koan.

I love this one... It would seem to me if god created everything as we know it he would create the chicken and the rooster before the egg. As we all know it takes a chicken and a rooster to make eggs. Animals have a natural (god given) impulse to mate and continue the cycle of life. Eggs do not have the natural (god given) impulse or ability to mate and create other eggs. The egg is a product of the chicken meaning it came from it putting the chicken before the egg.

The chicken came first. I'm not a zoologist but I dont think creatures still in an unhatched egg have developed reproductive organs.

Bah! Everyone knows that they were created in two seperate realities at the same time, one was lost in our reality shortly after. Thats why we have both here, in another reality there are no chickens or eggs!
