This'll be tough, but it may be worth trying - go to sleep right away, then wake up early to do homework.
The toughrest part, other than actually dragging yourself out of bed that early, will be guaging how much time you'll need to do your hw.
Give it a try on a day that you don't have a ton to do for classes that is due.
Coffee, mountain dew, etc. won't be needed as much, once you get up and rolling. A cool shower, just cool enough to be uncomfortable (or colder, if neccesary,) can help the eyes open up a bit more. Just make sure that you don't let yourself fall into the trap of "taking a five-minute rest", esp if you aren't done with the schoolwork.
It might not be the thing for you, but it could be worth a try.

I think you need to take a really hard look at your life and start to eliminate what is causing the most problems.
From what you've said, it seems that the sport you play is taking up time for homework and rest. Homework and rest are more important than a sport.
Anything that "helps you feel awake" is not good for you. Why? Many are addicting or have bad side effects. But the most important thing you are not getting here is your body is screaming at you to change this situation. If you don't listen and try to "stay awake with something", your health will suffer in the long run.

I had this problem, just try to sleep as long as you can.
And make sure you fall asleep without tv or music(even with sleep timer) it will mess with your REM sleep. And you dont relax as much.
Try taking Vitamin B12 and B6, they make you feel more awake. Also if you like tea, drink green tea(lipton makes some) its really good and not to mention really good for you.
Try eating pasta because it has alot of carbs for energy(before your sport) but dont overdue it or else you'll start to gain weight.
Hope this helped

You are probably in sleep deficit mode. See study tips, memory improvement (spend less time: work more effectively), and sleep disorders, at http://www.ezy-build.net. (.net.nz/~shaneris) in sections 13, 41, and 3. Catch up on sleep over the weekend, and get 7 - 8 hrs EVERY NIGHT!!! Use the supplements, and herbal remedies.
