I asked a question about salvation and works and one person wrote in their reply
"In the verses above, it is quite clear to see that salvation is not as simple as stating that one proclaim Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. It is a nice thing to say and should be said every day, but there is more to salvation then accepting Christ as one's personal Lord and Savior."
I say being saved is exactly that easy. It says salvation consists of confessing and believing. Nothing more. Am I reading this wrong?
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Side note: to the person I quoted if it annoys you let me know and I will not do it again.

lovinghelpertojoe - yes a Catholic friend. Did you see someone reported my question about Mary being th greatest of the saints? It was totally respectful and within the rules. So annoying.

Nina - yeah I have nothing but respect for the person who stated this. I just kind of wanted to clarify a bit. She strikes me as a really devout Christian. Hopefully one day I will get to sit down with her in heaven and meet her in person.

Our salvation is a gift from God through our Lord Jesus Christ and placing our faith in Him. Works does NOT produce salvation. Salvation produces works.
While it is possible to have a false faith, and not truly be saved, one's life will show their salvation and belief in Christ.
One of your Catholic friends you quoted? :)

It s as simple as the verses say. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. It is that simple but yet that difficult. Works cannot get you into Heaven. Only the Shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God has the the power to wash away your sin and present you without spot or blemish before the Father. Jesus said " I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life"

I think I know who gave this answer. She is a great Christian. However, I do not believe all her denomination's doctrines.
The Hebrew word 'accept' which is used when we say " accept Jesus as Lord and Savior " requires also deeds to show that we really follow.
One can hardly say that we just need to accept Him as our Lord and Savior, because that is not an easy thing to do. "Just" diminishes the great mercy and grace of God . There is nothing, absolutely nothing we could do for our salvation by our own right.
Of course we need deeds, but we just do not get saved by them. Paul and James are talking about two different things. Paul teaches us how to become Christian and saved. And James teaches us what is expected from us once we are already saved. God keeps His promises. We want to keep our faith alive once we are saved.
It is a little bit like getting married. When are you really married. After the ceremony? After the party? After the consummation of marriage? Honeymoon? There are still some legal papers that need to be signed...
We would not want to get married and then stop acting like married people do:all the good things that marriage gives you, according to God's great plan.

Yes, it is just that simple to be saved. You are correct. After salvation, you can grow in faith and closeness to God by following the teaching of Jesus- to love your fellow man. But, don't let anyone tell you that it is a complicated thing to be saved. Jesus made it simple for everyone who believes and asks forgiveness. The verses you quoted are true.

"..faith, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead..." James 2:17
Of course all we have to do is confess and ask Jesus into our heart, but when we are reborn, there should truly be a change inside of us...if we declare Jesus are our Savior, and continue living the was we have been living, then I don't know if the person actually truly believed in their acceptance of Jesus (of course, that is between them and God...)
This is not to say that, when we do accept Christ as our Savior, we suddenly have easy lives, we are motivated to save the world, we "feel Christian" every day, or that the sky will part and fireworks will go off and you will have this earth shattering "transformation." (This is going on in Heaven, yes, but not on earth.) You may not "feel" it at all....
So we cannot just say a prayer...we have to BELIEVE in the prayer and act on it to seek God daily because if you truly seek God, he will seek you back.

Salvation... From what? who? where? how?...
This is all rubbish. You read a fantasy book called the bible and you believe what someone wrote 2000 yrs. ago. Amazingly enough 500 yrs. ago very few people in the world could read and write, in fact as early as 100 yrs. ago tons of people were illiterates;
Yet 2000 yrs. ago they knew how to write... (have faith) it's all bs with no proof which is why you MUST have faith. How gullible! Too funny!
ps. Live today and don't worry about the future, in the end we'll all become food for worms.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast." When one is "saved," he/she has been born again, spiritually renewed, and is now a child of God by right of new birth. Trusting in Jesus Christ, the One who paid the penalty of sin when He died on the cross, is what it means to be "born again" spiritually. "Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation..." (2 Corinthians 5:17a).

I totally agree with you. We are saved ONLY by faith. However, it also says in James that faith without works is dead. Thus, real faith is shown by our actions. If we claim to love Jesus yet do not obey his commands, then it's possible our faith in Him isn't really genuine. However, we can never earn our way to heaven by doing good works. Good works are simply a manifestation of our love, faith, and personal relationship with our Lord.

Well in part I agree with that person. We can't just say, "I am a Christian.........." and do nothing more. Being a Christian, we have an obligation to keep God's law, to resist sinful impulses, and to sanctify our spirit. We can't just say, "I'm a Christian so God loves me and I can do whatever I want".
