nope, they wanted me to but I didn't. I did begin eating better since I wasn't always throwing up from anxiety so I gained maybe 5lbs but it was def from my eating habits rather than the pills.

YES YES YES YES YES.

I took Effexor for 2 years. In those 2 years, I gained about 35-40 pounds. I couldn't figure out why in the world I was getting so heavy, because I wasn't eating junk food, and I was somewhat active. I realized it might have been the medicine, so I talked to the doctor and they switched me to Wellbutrin.

I have taken Wellbutrin ever since. I like it better than Effexor because you don't gain weight on it; also, unlike other antidepressants, it does NOT make you tired; and it also does not decrease your libido. If the weight gain is bothersome for you, ask your doctor if you could try Wellbutrin. Of the meds I've taken, it's been the best by far.

Good luck!

No, at least I dont think so. There is ALWAYS a chance to gain weight on anti-depressants. I am on 2 others besides Effexor, and they have been OK. Maybe a few pounds gained.

No - the side-effects of Effexor & Effexor SR (Venlafaxine) are relatively few compared with other anti-depressants. In fact, one of the noted side effects is loss of appetite. Avanza (Remeron), on the other hand, which is a Mirtazapine increases appetite and can result in significant weight gain.

All anti depressants cause a person to gain weight, especially over a long period of use. Expect to gain at least 30 lbs in the next year or 2 if you continue their use.

I lost weight because it killed my appetite a bit.
