you will do one of two things: you will either be a Grad N Go which means within hours of Pass In Review you will be on your way to A school, or you will not have to leave for A school until after the weekend.

NO LEAVE is authorized between Boot and A school. you will go directly to A school after Boot, it's just a matter of whether or not you get the weekend off to visit with any family who comes to see you.

I was Navy.. a few years ago. I had my degree and was guaranteed my rate and left boot camp an E-3.

I had two weeks between graduation and A-school.

However, it may have been that the class was forming and that's why I had two weeks. I know one recent recruit that went directly from boot camp to A-school.

That's one of the questions you might ask your Company Commander, a CPO who's in charge of you guys. But, I'd suggest you not ask until about 4 weeks into your recruit training.

If you're guaranteed a rate and school, my guess is that you will not be deployed before school as some of the nay-sayers would ignorantly have you believe.

And the Navy's one of the safest outfits in the military... unless you're an HN, a SEAL, or a SWCC... then it can get a little hairy. Aboard ship... where you'll be half of your career... you're a moving target. Besides, most ships are in task groups including an aircraft carrier. Not too many are dumb enough to take on a carrier task group. Shore stations are usually quite far from the fighting.

If your a Corpsman, you can be attached to a Marine outfit... and the Marines are usually thrown into the worst situations. SEALs and Combat Crew are usually pretty clandestine, but if it hits the fan, stuff happens... pretty quickly...also not for the faint-hearted.

Unless you have spoken to a Navy Recruiter already, taken the ASVAB and have the contract to be a HM be prepared not to be one. You are a female, currently the Female side of HM is overmanned so they are allowing only a few each year or not allowing them at all. This includes both medical and dental sides. Because you are female if for some reason you do get HM you will not necessarily be on the Marine side unless in dental or a specific division where you can be stationed at a Hospital on a Marine base. Standardly only males are allowed to go to the FMF as you can be deployed with them. Women are not allowed in combat where Marines go. I do know 2 ladies that do work at Marine bases one in a hospital the other in a dental clinic so you can be stationed there, you just can't be stationed with a Marine Unit itself.

This one is all about timing. As a general rule, you will NOT get leave between Boot Camp and A-school. However, every once in a while--like if you PIR close to Christmas and you would be arriving at your A-school during Christmas stand down, you'll get a break and get a little time off in between. But since you're asking this question, unless you're leaving for RTC in like the next 24 hours, I would say this is pretty much out for you. Look to go from Boot directly to A-school and then get some leave time. Good luck! And thanks for choosing to serve!

My husband is an instructor at Boot camp(Great Lakes ,IL.)
He says there are two possibilities on what will happen when you graduate.

First- Grad and Go, which means you graduate spend a couple hours with your family at boot camp and either get put on a bus and driven to the airport or have to walk to the other base and report at NSTC Great Lakes for A school.

Second- You will graduate and be granted liberty for the weekend with strict guidelines (i.e- curfews, drinking, distance traveled etc..) and you will remain at RTC Great Lakes with your division until travel arrangements are made.

99.9% no leave is granted after graduation unless you graduate on Christmas,Thanksgiving or Easter.

Hope this helps! Good Luck and Stay Warm!!

DId you accept an A school already? If not, you will report directly to a ship...If you have a guaranteed school, you will go there and then they will give you leave if they see fit...I graduated boot camp on a Friday and started school the following Monday..It depends on your rate..

First off are you doing A school afterwards? you should be. Unless you are going to ship which is really unlikely. We went over our A school orders 2 weeks before we graduated. And only one in our division went straight to ship because they screwed up on her orders. The only time you will spend with your family is after you graduate and liberty call on the weekend. Than depending how long your report date is you are than off to " A" school within a week or sooner. I left 2 days after we graduated. If not than you will go to different barracks until you leave for "A" school. You get 2 weeks only if you are going to go over seas right out of boot camp. That was what our RDC's told us. Good luck

Our daughter was in the Navy and went to A school within a few days of graduation. I really doubt you will get 2 weeks.

Find out your report date from your recruiter. I went from boot camp to school, did not need the rest.

my husband is in the navy. He says if you are guaranteed an A school before you went to bootcamp, you will go right after, otherwise you will go to a ship first. He said you wait a week or 2 after graduation for your orders to come through.
