I used to go to Roosevelt Racetrack on Long Island in New York. It was by The Roosevelt Field Mall in Nassau County. They use to feature Harness Racing and I use to go there all the time around 15 to 20 years ago. I have lived in South Florida for the last 15 years just moving back to Long Island 2 years ago. When and why did it close up.

According to Newsday:

``Roosevelt peaked in the mid-1960s, but probably still would be going strong if off-track betting hadn't been instituted in 1971,'' Goldstein said. ``It sapped our audience and hurt our product. By the time baby boomers were of an age to go to the races, they didn't share their parents' passion for trotters.''

Roosevelt's slide continued through the 1970s and through a management change in 1984. The track closed in 1988 under a cloud of alleged illegal bond activities that hangs over the grounds to this day.

They closed the track about 15 years ago, now there is a Lowes, and Big expensive condo's over looking nothing, I'll never forget Roosevelt racway, I was there once watching a Hockey game, drinking a beer with friends on a closed circuit cable that only THEY had, I decided to place a bet, I put down $5 on a 42 to 1 shot, the horse came in, I forgot to take my ticket from the window, taught me a good lesson, DON'T GAMBLE !
