My fiancé and I were at the bar for my friends birthday last night and my friend's best friend was there. I got along with her really well and we had a lot of fun. We all drank quite a bit and when we were leaving I patted her on the butt when I was hugging her goodbye, just joking around. My boyfriend freaked out when we got in the car and was like "What the hell was that?!?!" and wouldn't talk to me the rest of the night... was I totally out of line? No one else seemed to think it was a big deal.

It's not appropriate. No lady will do such a thing. I wouldn't want or like to be patted on my butt. Keep your hands off butts.

He must have noticed that you had too much to drink and became overly friendly. Drinking is a mood changer. he might have felt that you were paying more attention to her and was upset. Try not to drink so much or not at all when you go out with him in public. Save the drinking for when your both alone.

If the girl you patted wasn't upset, then why should your fiance care? Just tell him to loosen up. Most guys really wouldn't mind that.

Well it's probably not the wisest thing to do, patting someone's butt.

How you greet and say farewell to your friends is none of his business.

This strikes me as very controlling behaviour.

Having a temper tantrum because you and your friend were horsing about is ridiculous, and you know it!

Unless you wish to have him telling you how to behave socially, you need to make this very clear to him now.

Of course, if you want his guidance in how to act and behave, it sounds like he will be willing to give it.

Cheers :-)

He's overreacting but that was pretty weird. Best keep your hands to yourself.

I suppose if you were bisexual he might have reason to be jealous...but even so..it seemed pretty obvious you were joking around. I think he is overreacting.

Is your fiance homophobic? Why else would he care so much about a funny thing like that - and act so childishly about it?

Hmmm....
