I know about the update that they can do, I mean without making the update. Is there anything I can do on my side to make it readable without them doing the update?

In word, on your document click save as (file). then where it says Save As Type (beneath the File Name thing) click the arrow and choose word 2003 then save it. you should then be able to read it under word 2003. hope it works out.

Click the Office button

Click Word Options

Open the Save options

Beside Save files in this format, select Word 97-2003

Click OK

Your documents will be saved in the .doc format, which is compatible with earlier versions of Word.

Have you tried copying the document and then pasting it on an email, and sending it that way? That's what I do with a lot of mine when I want to send them, and they don't come out legible as an attachment. Sometimes I get documents that are just a lot of computer gobbledygook. I'm guessing the problem is incompatibility, (with the computers, that is:)

can you save it as a .doc file when you go to "save as"? Look at the dropdown menu for file type and see if that's an option.

Rich Text format can also be read by older software, including wordpad.
