Nawwww. I enjoy walking down the block or driving down the road these days and seeing all these really bizarre spooks slouching around.
I went for a haircut last Thursday (men's day - $8.00!), and there was a wild mask-face dummy monster thing perched on one of her chairs, lookin' like it was getting a hair-dry! She said she did have it outside by the road, but some local parent(s) complained it was scaring their kids! And she was like, "You should see the stuff all over the neighbourhoods!"
And she speculated that it was some fundamentalists who were pushing their weight around.
And she's probably right.
Let's just all have a little fun, y'all!

Halloween is the biggest religious holiday of my faith, so no it doesn't go against. It is a very valuable time to honor the dead and celebrate the spiritual new year.
Do something for the kids? Of coarse! I don't give out the cheap-o candy, only the good stuff! And I am sure to toss out plenty of fake (plastic / rubber etc) spiders and bugs. If anyone in the neighborhood is throwing Christian tracts, I will have ready a "The Beauty and Meaning of Samhain, the Halloween Holiday." It is much more entertaining to kids than the Christian ones. Really gives them something to talk about on the bus to school the next day.

Halloween, aka "All Hallow's Eve" - the day before All Saints Day, I can remember as a kid not being allowed to wear any devilish or ghoulish costumes, the same for my kids as well. Some of the local churches put on fall festivals where the kids can play games, eat some holiday fare and gather all kinds of candy at each of the booths they have. We've participated at a church-sponsored activity for about 3 out of 5 years now, with very limited of going door-to-door-to-door for treats. This year, my three boys want to walk our neighborhood for a change (since we first moved here) because we know the neighbors & the neighborhood pretty well now (open rural area so it's pretty safe too). Should be fun!!!

I think Halloween has been ruined by retail companies and confectionery moguls. The original reason was for (as someone previously mentioned) celebration of the harvest season.
I really don't follow a religion so it can't go against my beliefs. But yeah, I am not very partial to Halloween. I do like all the warm scents that Bath and Body works put out this time of year though :)

No, not really. In any case, the churches in my area do a Halloween Carnival where kids get a HUGE bag of candy and free carnival games and stuff.
My church will put in a key in each bag of candy and when the kids show up to Sunday School that week, they'll try their key out on the treasure chest for a prize (it's a pirate theme). One of the pastors said to us this morning that it's not about the candy; it's about exposing the children to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

IMO: Halloween, as it is celebrated in the US couldn't possibly offend any thinking person's religious beliefs, unless dressing in costume and getting treats is contrary to one's beliefs. And, for all I know, it might be to some people.
Which is fine, of course. I am not casting aspersions on anyone's religion here.
But (and again this is just my opinion), I defy anyone to LOGICALLY explain how a child, going from door to door dressed as a princess and asking politely for a treat, could possibly offend God.
And then they will have to explain how that activity somehow participates in the celebration of Samhain.
Now, if that princess is indeed celebrating Samhain, I can easily see how that would offend Christian sensibilities. But, since the overwhelming likelyhood is that she never heard of Samhain, I just can't see the harm.

Halloween does not go against my beliefs because it is too commercial, I decorate and give the kids lots of candy and treats. No tricks

My right wing buddies who spend 24-7 thinking of Jesus and Jehovah would outlaw Halloween and make it a criminal offense to engage in any aspect of it...they also belive the Mentally retarded should not be exempt from capitol punishment either. Muslims and Hindus are the very agents of satan...blah blah...For most Im sure the night is harmless fun and don't see thier souls in peril..For people like my friends they will hole up in there church with others and pray for us..

Is getting your kids dressed up and trick or treating considered "celebrating" Halloween?
I really didn't think so...
I think it's just like Christmas, a commercial holiday, a big bonanza time for the economy, though not as big as X-Mas.

Commercial Halloween doesn't. I like giving candy to the kids.
