I am curious as to why Christians (most of the ones I know, anyway) feel like they must expose others to their religious beliefs. Is this a commandment from god? Part of being a good christian? A requirement to get into heaven? Why do you feel that you MUST bring others to your "side" as it were? Why can't you just accept that some people don't believe the way you do and leave it at that?

They tend to see the first commandment as marching orders. People who have other gods before theirs must be converted or eliminated. Unfortunately, especially for the Middle East, this attitude is shared by muslims.

What I find the strangest is that Jesus preached continually against organized religion and against dogma. He told his followers not to worship in public but to go into their closet to pray.

I respect people right to not believe but I don't quite accept your restrictive interpretation. You seem to have no problem exposing us to your beliefs why would we not have the same right. I would say most Christians witness ot others because they want to see them in heaven not because we get any browny points with God.

We are told to spread to truth of Christ and the Gospel. We don't convert anyone nor should we try to coerce or "twist arms" to get people into the kingdom, that is not our job. We simply tell you the truth as we have come to understand it, then leave it between you and God. We know most will not believe, but we also know there "sheep" amongst the "goats", those are the ones we seek.

It is not a requirement to get into heaven but it is a commandment. We are told to spread the word of God throughout the world. It is an act of obediance and love for our fellow man (we wish for all to share in our peace, joy, and salvation). If we do not give you the chance to accept Christ then your blood is on our hands. (You can choose to reject Christ but if you die and go to hell because I did not tell you about Christ then it is my fault as well)

Only the Holy Spirit can convert someone, Christians just pass on the Good News of Jesus Christ.

It is part of Christianity.. A big part. Jesus commanded that the gospel be preached to everyone so that everyone has a chance to be saved. Otherwise they will go to hell because we didn't speak up.

Jesus commanded it.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

I do..You are free to believe as you wish. People should respect your beliefs. I do want everyone to have the opportunity to know the joy that I have found. I have asked people to church. If they say no..that fine! I also share my desserts with people I like. I am not trying to control any one. I just want to share.

Wiccamaam.... It is comparable to those whom see a beautiful rainbow in the sky and calling it to the attention of everyone to see the beauty for themselves....

Can you say that if YOU saw such a thing that you would not call out to share it with someone...anyone? :) :)

Because Christians believe that, if you do not believe that Jesus died for you, that you are going to hell, and since Christians truly believe in a place called hell, they want to save nonbelievers from it.
