Sponges make up a fraction of the aquatic population. Less than .00001 percent. Try to imagine placing a penny in a huge swimming pool and see if it made any difference.

Actually it would be shallower, not deeper. It's true that sponges contain many holes that hold water, but the rest of the sponge is material which displaces water. Fewer sponges = less water displaced "by the solid parts".

And for anyone thinking about it: no, killing off all the sponges is not a good way to combat rising levels due to GW.

Worse still if we took them all out and squezzed them we would have even more global flooding. Thankfully natural sponges are no longer harvested in vast quantities and we now have artificial. I'm sure the flooding issue is why we had to stop.

Did you know I believe it was National Geographic Magazine that stated the #1 pollutant of our oceans is cigarrette butts? I know its off topic butt that really ticks me off.
